Provided you have the right licence you should manage with club sites and most commercial ones. The maximum length of unit on any club site is shown in the handbook so once you establish the size of the one you want you can see if it could be a problem on
any you might want to visist.

You will probably need a long pitch and sometimes the wardens may have to reserve one for you so you might get less choice of pitch. You will need to make sure sites know you are coming to reserve a pitch where needed though.

I have noticed most large RVs tend to spend long periods on sites, not touring,ie 21nights ,so are a lot being used as the only "property",but i think if you do go down that route a call in advance to any site might be a good idea to ensure a pitch,as some sites might only have one pitch of the max size stated on the site profile

as with anyone moving away from the convenience of a car into motorhoming, have a real good think of its for you...

getting about will be the main concern, and an RV isnt something to pop into town with, so many who use them tow a small car...would this be the idea?

if not.....then bikes, busses, legs all come to mind....are any of these for you?

Most CC sites can accommodate an American RV but ask yourself whether you really want one. They are probably the most impractical way of pursuing 'vanning in the UK and the continent. They do however offer a lot for the money and RVs do have their die-hard
fans. My friend has one and loves it when he's touring the continent - he's driven large vehicles most of his life. There are European vans that offer a similar lifestyle in a more practical way although they are not cheap.

Undecided As ALL thoughts above ,but it's 'horses for courses' .of course .On my forth M/home now,a " Concorde".Yes the length can be
a problem on some sites/C.Ls ,but as said check up first. If you're looking for touring in home comforts & luxury, then YES ,go for it.IMO. Cool.

More of a "one bed flat with wheels" IMHO. When they are that big can you 'tour' in the accepted sense?

i guess you can in Europe (theres some pretty large german vans that tour there ) where aires are abundant but probably not quite so easy in the UK.

a large German tag axle might be slightly more wieldy but almost as roomy....though no slide outsUndecided

Some friends of mine had a huge Carthago and found it too big in Europe so they downsized a little.  But still had a garage for the motorbike.  I won't be changing from a caravan anytime soon it suits me well.

Have you considered a fifth wheel caravan?

I did ponder an american RV for a while, but then I came across fifth wheels, which seem to have all the size benefits (if you can call it that) of an RV, but you don't have to drag the RV around if you just want to pop out.... basically you have a pickup
truck to tow the fifth wheel caravan, can then use the pickup as your day to day vehicle! You are also not limited to the 7m length as per normal caravans, so can go longer, and most also have slide out sides! Here are a few companies in the UK that have them
    (there are others)...

    http://www.calderleisure.co.uk/

    http://www.5thwheels.co.uk/

    http://ccrv.co.uk/

Depending on size, you might be able to tow with a UK pickup (Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max, Ford Ranger etc), or if you go really big, might need a US pickup!

Having said all that, we haven't made the jump to a fifth wheel yet, but probably will soon!
