The small print on payloads

thanks, Michael, good stuff....what it does highlight is the rear axle issue...
you are running at 1950, limit is 2000kg....with no MrsT aboard...and various other stuff...so despite your apparent 'spare' 350kg, you are in fact are already on the limit, unless you have had any chassis 'tweaks'....
this is the issue that Kjell will have, though 'his' van has a slightly shorter overhang and overall length....
it was also fun taking ours to a local scrap merchant's on day one....he was a bit surprised that he thought we were crushing it so soon...
Write your comments here...I ws thinking that once Mrs T is onboard that would load the front more than rear more (she is very light anyway) but when I can get to a proper weighbridge I will get a more accurate figure as I was not hugely confident of the
one we went on especially as the scrap yard burnt down a few weeks later!!0 -
same impression i got from our local one....
we're on a 4250lg chassis, running at around 3750, so no payload/axle issues...
i wanted to get an accurate reading so on my last trip nack down the A303 i followed the dft weighbridge sign nr Wylye...
wjen i got there....no weighbridge....grabbed the nearest workman and asked of i was at the right places.....
"nah, mate, place closed ages ago....." dorection signs still on the A303 in both directions.....

Hi, Michael...
front...2100kg
rear....2400kg
MTPLM...4250kg.
i do believe that this could be uprated to 4500kg MTPLM as some continental brands are pre delivery...

if you are plated at 3850 then (AFAIK) you already have been 'paper' upgraded from 3500kg to 3850kg.
in this case, you would be on the Fiat 35 (light) chassis which has finite limits (without physical change to tyres, air supporting suspension etc) as i described earlier...1850kg(f) and 2000kg(r)...
we are on a different chassis, the Fiat 40 (heavy) chassis which supports these higher axle weights as std....the chassis itself is 30kg heavier (IIRC) so there is in fact a small payload penalty in running on this, but as the limits are much higher, this isnt really an issue.
so, i dodnt think there is much more you can squeeze out of a Fiat light chassis....though air-riders, different tyres and higher pressures can allow a little extra.
I am no expert, just read plenty on MMM and the like, but SVTECH are experts and can give you ypur options over the phone and will help with any replating.
id weigh the van again with Mrs T and all your chattels, fully primed for touring and get those axle weights....your limits will be on your weight plate...
as you have been 'upgraded' you will probably have a second plate with the 3850kg increase...

Thanks BB I have emailed SV Tech to see what they say. I thought we were on heavy chassis but perhaps it was wide!! If not its not an issue as we were jsut about fully loaded at the time and can maybe move some stuff forwards to even/level it up. There
are no weighbridges close to me in Essex so will look on my travels later in the year.0 -
if you were on the heavy chassis, there would have been little point in rating it back to 3850 from the std 4250 as there would be no licensing difference....
can you look at your weight plate, it will have front, rear, train (towing) and overal weights...these numbers will make it fairly obvious as to which chassis you are on...
