Leaky gas connecting valve
hello my fridge in caravan has defrosted , whilst on electric hookup , so as it wouldnt work on electric weve uncoupled and tried to get it to use gas only to discover that the gas bottle is empty and when weve connected to new bottle gas is leaking out
of connection (i thought we shouldnt have used all that amount if gas just fir two uses of oven!) have also connected to mini gas bottle and that leaks too! is this a common problem can gas connectors suddenly just leak ? its literaly blowing out? cheers mrs
bc:(

Have you checked out why it's not working on 240v? Perhaps it's something simple like a fuse.

Leaking gas and faulty electrics don't mix, or if they do it could be a serious problem (fire/explosion!). Shut it all down and get knowledgeable help.
agreed......
then one issue can be resolved (safely) at a time.....

If gas gushes out as said then it isn't going to be used.
As I said earlier if it is butane with the rubber washer/seal this could need replacing.
'Check the black sealing washer on the regulator for damage before connecting—replace it if it’s faulty'

thankyooo for prompt replies have gone back into locker ,and looked at gas bottles ,and found that empty bottle had a rubber washer in connecting hole and other two full bottles hadnt ,came to conckusion that rubber washer actually belongs to regulator lead
.....doh! we had been connecting rubberless beass to rubberless brass .... no wonder gas was blowin out ! have solced the mystery abd learnt something ! fridge is working on 240 again but then keeps switchin iff and red light comes on ,so only that to sort
out at moment, will moniter it today, was out all day yesterday when it switched off ,so will see wot it doess ,it keeps clikking as if trying to change to gas (hence the discovery of empty bottle)and ensuing potential d.i.v.o.r.c.e , cos its not what you need
ar 6am is it thanks for replies mrs bc:))0 -
What sort of gas. I use propane with a metal to metal seal. If I recall butane connector has a rubber seal inside the attachment nut.

You can buy propane pigtails with rubber to metal too - seems an obvious choice to me.

Never come across rubber to metal on propane .... only with butane

isnt the 'propane' fitting a POL bullet shaped connector, whereas the 'butane' one is a LH threaded 21.8 female nut?
i thought it would have a rubber washer inside the nut....mine has....
the propane fitting is brass to brass normally, isnt it?

Many propane POL connectors now have a rubber nose 'cone' on the male end. This is replaceable just like the Calor butane washers, and readily available.

useful to know, although i dont have a POL pigtail these days...the Gaslow takes a butane fitting.

Hello again my gas bottles are orange which is propane and my adapter hose end is a "male" shape with a black convex rubber washer on the end ( but the rubber washer was left unwittingley in the empty gas bottle)hence we were trying to connect new gas bottle
minus rubber washer...... Big mistake!Sorted now tho thanks

If gas leaking in front locker there should be no electric present
Apart from the gas bottle locker light!

Well we use Calorlite bottles with stainless steel pigtails which have domed rubber seals where they go into the bottle. They also have large plastic wheels to tighten them on so we don't need spammers. Have a proper look on the web and you'll find them
in different lengths.0
