Help with gas problem

We have just been away and had a problem with the gas.when we used the red bottle everything worked fine.When we changed over to a full blue bottle nothing would work any sense The hob and grill were on very low pressure. Change back to a red bottle ,everything
fine. We have one regulated fitted to the bulkhead at high level.Both rubber leads have a type of none return valve in one end ,can't understand what is wrong .would be glad of any advice.

    Have you got a regulator fitted that is only suitable for propane? This could be your problem if your van is older than 2004 or a previous owner may have changed it at some point. Butane, the blue bottle, doesn't like temperatures below 5C but I cannot imaging
    that is the problem at this time of year.

    I  seem  to  recall  that  before  the  modern  habit  of  having  one  regulator  for  both  gases,  the  blue ( butane)  &  red  (propane  )  bottles  had  regulators  that   functioned  at  different  pressures.

    The van is a 2006 Bailey ranger as far as I am aware the regulator on the bulkhead is suitable off both types. We only have the problem when we use butane apparently the valves in the connector leads are supposed to detect a leak but as far as we are aware
    we have no leaks. I am wondering if the valve in the lead could be faulty

    Have you tried swapping the bottles around. If the red one then is poor it probably is the "leak detector" or something wrong with the connecting hose.

    Ps just thought you might not be able to do that because of the different connections. Think I would go to two red bottles.

    I would be inclined to change the Butane pigtail.

    I take it that you are talking about a six kilo Propane and a seven kilo Butane,as they both have diferent bottle connectors Has the butane clip on connector got a built in regulator a lot have ,which could affect the pressure

    Can there be a problem with pigtails apart from the obvious Like a split in the lead that would cause a leak

    If they are rubber hoses I would think there could be other problems as I understand they decay from the inside that is why they have a change by/end of life date stamped on them.

    Of  course  if  you  go  "All  Electric"  you  could  dispense  with  the  gas  bottles  &  gain  another  cupboard

    A dealer will tell you that 10 years is a good life for a regulator and unless you've changed your pigtails they are probably beyond their best before date Too. See the date printed on them. The problem is that unwanted oil which is part of the bottle, contaminates
    rubber parts in hoses, regulators and washers. Your system seems as if it needs a good service.

    if you haven't sorted it out yet and the blue bottle is still full I would recommend swapping it for a red propane one as these are more suitable for all year use in that they don't "freeze" in cold weather blue bottles will stop working with a bit of frost.

    It would appear that the problem is not with the regulator on the bulkhead because if it was it would effect whatever gas you were using.I put on a red bottle and tested ever thing in the van and had it all working at the same time, that is the hob, grill,
    oven,fridge water heater, and space heater .No problems.So the problem must either be a faulty valve on the blue bottle or my guess is a faulty pigtail.We are going to stick with the red bottles because that gas
    has a better calorific value anyway.
