Fresh water yes or no?

I've noticed on a fair few CC sites that the pitches that border a road are usually the last to fill up, why not move MVSP to this area along with the information room and any sheds tht are used by the warden. The pitches could then be relocated to an area
of the site (away from the road) that folk would like to pitch on. If this was done then passing M/H's could pop in as they do abroad, make it token operated then members could purchase a few at a time. M/H's using the site to stay on could be given a token
by the warden on check in as part of the booking in process at no cost (included in fee)0 -
TG pretty much what I was alluding too....a bit too sensible tho

What was this thread about ??
It was about someone outrageously expecting to get a bit of service from a club site, and what has followed has been 20+pages of reasons why he shouldnt get it:
It seems to boil down to:
"if you have not got a booking why expect any service" or "why are you so incompetant as to run out of water" and then there is the "it would never work or cost too much" school and finally "pity the poor old wardens who would need to police it"
:As a disinterested observer i.e dont have a motorhome or use club sites (hardly anyway) I have only skimmed this tread but many of the posts seem distinctly mean spirited towards fellow members and totaly lacking in ambition to
move with the timesWhat he said

I'm thinking the OP has had a ball with this thread. Thrown in a relatively hypothetical scenario, then sit back and watch and read all the huffing and puffing that it was bound to attract. I am quite sure that if someone rolled up late and there was no room, then a member would get as much help as possible, without compromising the site security and causing a problem. But the whole scenario in reality must be relatively rare. What experienced MH, touring either here or abroad is so naive as to not be aware of water and waste management? Certainly not at Beechwood Grange either, a favourite haunt of the OP?
Not at all and if you had read the whole thread you would know that.
The question was spawned from a real life experience of a previous member whom I personally know.
Your "I'm quite sure" bit is just the point in question and no they where refused

This was the post made on another forum in a thread about the CC
"Well I have to say you are fortunate, like you we have been paid up members of CCC & CC, I can't say I'm known for having a negative attitude, but two years ago we were travelling Scotland pulled up at quite a remote CC site and asked if there was any
room, we were told no there was not, no problem we said politely , we are CC. Members and have been for many years I wonder if we could top up a couple of containers of water, as we are in a remote part of Scotland and not sure where we would camp. No they
said sorry you can't have any water, we are willing to pay for it, again no sorry we can't let you have water. With this kind of attitude to members sorry I won't be singing there praises any time soon, just a different opinion of course."0 -
I'd like to read the rest of the discussion, Techno. Can you post a link, please?

Well said, Jay.
I detect traces of the old BB there.
now, whats got your goat today, Tinny....
no need to get personal and slip back into your Moderator mode...
seems Jay and I cant even have a little banter without you moderating....
it must be catching as your old mate M was doing a bit on the Cirencester thread...
i let that pass in that thread (form the sake of the anniverary couple....) but you guys really need to stop vetting others' posts.
Hang on BB - what's the point of that comment about the Cirencester post? Did I say anything moderator like? Did I suggest you weren't entitled to write what you did?
No, I merely suggested that it might have been tactful to leave your thoughts there unspoken. After all, you'd made no other comment on the thread up to that point so why leave it till a couple of days before the OP was going to make what was an entirely
negative comment.Didn't have you down as so sensitive that you wouldn't understand the thinking behind my post! With hindsight, would you still have posted the same comment?

If anyone wants to read it, it's on page 4. It was posted around the same time as this thread was started although it happened two years ago. CC are reported as saying that only on site paying visitors can use water.
The link - once posted into the dialogue box highlight and copy again. Tap the closed link and a box will open. Paste it into the top line and click/tap Insert. No special powers needed other than the ability to come to terms with the vagaries of CT.
PS. I was expecting to read Fun as the name of the forum suggests but there are as many moaners on there as here. The same ones in some cases.

But at least you dont get someone removing posts, because someone doesen't agree with you
And the PM facility is very usefull

Some forums rarely feel the need to remove posts and PM and email facilities are indeed very useful.

I prefer the Collins definition

unexpected, unpredictable and something you have no control over.
I feel we will shortly have our knuckles rapped for wandering off topic.

My impression of the difference between CT and the Fun is that the Fun moderation is minimal and moaning is done in a light-hearted, irreverent, and out spoken manner with a lot of leg pulling and banter which if done on CT would get you band.
..Is that the cc concert one

For what it's worth, can I summarise how I would deal with the op's question if I were a warden:
Some sites have a problem with a certain group of caravan users who tend not to pay for pitching, but would like to use the facilities.
If I was approached by someone looking for pitch and I didn't have one spare - based on me having walked the site many times that day, not just on whatever the computer said - I would assess whether they fell into the above group (not difficult, especially if they were hoping to pay for a pitch) and if they weren't, I would let them empty their waste and fill their water (probably escorting them) and suggest a contribution to the flower fund / RNLI / local charity etc.
Then I would wish them luck in finding a site (after looking for availability on other local CC sites) and telling them when I would have availability, if they'd like to come back.
Job done.

This thread is starting to look distinctly "Simon & Garfunkel".

It's "were" by the way, not where. Bad experience for your acquaintances then sadly. Not been our experiences when we have called into a site but not stayed, eg, buy a gas cylinder, call in for fish and chips when the van visits, call in and buy a cycling
map for Clumber. All been nice positive experiences, and that's at three different sites.0
