Fresh water yes or no?

.... providing it does not add to the queues that sometimes exist at MHSPs. ....
I don't use them, we have a caravan, but I've rarely seen more than a couple of motorhomes at a MHSP either filling/emptying or waiting
Oh, I have many a time!

It must be great to be perfect and never forget anything
Nobody is perfect, Husky, but most of us try to be responsible, don't we?

The CCC charge I read (earlier link) is £8 which for the use of all facilities including washing, showers etc is reasonable. They do a one size fits all as is common these days and can only rreally see it appealing to those that wild camp. They do not offer
a cut price version for water, waste and loo emptying. A take it or leave it package.from Jay' post (and my failing memory) it seems the charge is £7.20....IMHO this is way too high.

It takes little organisational skills to ensure water available and loo not over full techno. Even us oldies can manage. Although on the occasion that I wild camped I did make occasional use of the CC sites There was at least one occasion
when I moved on after a couple of days and simply used a public toilet to empty loo and top up waterEasy ..I think you have it right, it should be a completely hypothetical question ,it would be interesting if
any ""duel" (sic) members can throw light on the c cc take up of their open door system...pistols at dawn, JVB?
i am a member of both clubs but havent used the CCC service..
a) its too expensive
b) im far too organised to find myself in that position

Very reasonable IMO given that it offers full facilities. In my case for example toilet facilities, Showers for the two of us and some washing done whilst showering. Very reasonable for that I reckon. They do not want a string of callers for empty loo, waste
and water with the implications on staff involvement for a couple of quid nor the degree of uptake that might engender0 -
Perhaps both the major Clubs should do as some of the Continental sites do. Provide pitches just for motorhomes or night stoppers/short stayers! Black Horse and I think Rookesbury do this so why not more sites if the land is available?. It might stop the moans about minimum stays and lack of availability? A tricky decision to make but it could be done.
I was impress by this motorhome aire created by Camping Sainte Claire at Neufchatel en Bray. Barrier controlled, 14 pitches, pay by card, 12 euros a night, open all year. Absoulutely a first class facility.
While the Clubs languish in the dark ages when it comes to the provision of motorhome facilities, it will remain more attractive to go Continental.

peedee, it would be great if this happened but like everything else that works so well over the water, this will seem like a totally foreign concept....why not just stay on the site, i hear them cry.....
over there, the MH is king and all towns and villages (as well as savvy campsites) are geared up for the 'overnighter' who wants to come, park, fill/dump, visit town and then leave to repeat at a zillion other places.
but wait, this particular town might warrant a second night...no problem, no hassle, no booking....
can you imagine the clubs reaction to an impromptu request for a further night...?....have you booked?
perhaps any further 'transit' pitches should be non-bookable, but with the club not being a touring club (as many MHers would see it) this (and many other forward thinking ideas) will be consigned to the corporate 'not the CC way' bin

Fysh, we use THS sites, too.....a great little concept...no booking, move to another, come back as you wish....

That'll never catch on peedee .... there's no dirty great manhole cover to lift and manoeuvre up to!
quite right....at Broadway recently, OH guided van to the required 'spot' for waste outlet, and she suggested that she lift the cover so that i could open the valve from inside the van....
waste of time, cover was firmly jammed into the square hole and was too heavy for her anyway......why is it so difficult?
youll see from Peedee's photo that the MHSP is not sited on the main route around the site, but out of the way and with no manholes in sight....
come on CC, another lifetime project in the making....didnt the club quote 20 years!,!!! to complete a network wide overhaul

I've used 2 of 3 AS's that have MHSPs very like that. Drive over a huge drain, turn the tap and job done. They have also been near the entrances and out of the way of others campers.
The CC points are pretty useless and difficult on the whole.

I made a slight mistake, it wasn't 12 euros p.n. but 12 euros for 24 hours so another advantage is you can arrive and depart at any time you like. It was a timed barrier ticket. It also had 10 amp electricity included in the price.

I agree with some of the other posters, the Caravan Club are a tad behind the times. Motorhome owners are allowed to join however our needs aren't especially well catered for. Surely as members we should be able to access facilities to suit our needs.
We're not the same as caravaners, yet we're treated the same. Another good example of this is where there is no reduced fee, if you don't require electric hook up. The other lot do provide for this.0 -
That looks a cracking site, Peedee.......sorry, drifting...
....the thing is....thats only the 'cheapo aire' attached to the site...the site is even nicer
this is more than enough for most touring MH and there are thousands like this all over europe...
we have one in Canterbury....
we stayed in one a few years ago....inside the site €15, outside on the aire €8....we could still use the bar, showers etc.....just a smaller, more functional 'pitch'

...no doubt, any passing van could fill/dump paying for a 'jeton' in the service 'bourne'.....
....(which reminds me, off to the cinema later)

I am sure you are a nice fella BB but you don't half post some daft things.
Ask a warden if you can extend your stay (something I am sure that many will have done) - response I have had is simply 'no problem' or 'sorry we are full'.
As for dump facilities etc why should the club even consider supplying to those not using a site. Maybe a campaign with local authorities etc.(wouldn't hold your breath on a response).
As for 'transit' halts; again why should the club give space for overnighters who want to pay less no doubt. Take an instance where pitch and adult fees are both £7. Two adults with pitch fee = £21. A transit stop would still need 15m width for spacing with
fire breaks included. A normal pitch say 18m so maybe a £1.20 reduction for a transit halt.As for non bookable pitches left for possible non bookers? Dream on when sites do get full. MAny motorhomers in the UK pitch up for 4 nights for example and rarely take the outfit off site because of difficulty parking where they want to visit whilst in
that area. Many caravanners move every 4 or 5 days also.I am sure that if there was money in providing dump facilities etc some entrepreneur would have taken it up. Certainly see no reason for the CC to do so

Thank you for all the replies and my question has I believe been answered in that it is against CC policy regarding my opening post.
continuing off topic, yes grey waste points are a joke in terms of access and H&S . There should not be any lifting of grates nor the risk of them not being replaced correctly.
Sites that safely provide waste dumping generally have a full road width gully with a flush. Often it is necessary to drive the wrong way around or reverse to get anywhere near the grate even when it is on the right side for your van.

What might they be?

Some of the waste empty points for motorhomes are indeed poor. They were probably fine 25 years ago but motorvans are not all small and easy these days
Even brand new sites have not a clue about useability. The new Morris liesure affiliated site at Ludlow has 1 grate and if your outlet is on the offside you have to face downhill resulting in only the top half of the waste tank draining.
Bridlington CC too very poor despit being a new build.
Beechwood grange fitted an extra grate but to use it you block the road.
