No, I said I flash my lights to say thankyou. Obviously at speed on a fast road I would be judging the situation continually. You have previously said you hammer along in your M/H!

I repeat, flashing lights is a no, no.

I too constantly assess the situation on fast roads, in fact on ALL roads, and my judgement call is that it is not safe to wave to MHs. Your judgement is different as might mine be in my car when someone gives way at a junction.

Hammer? Oh, no. That implies a degree of recklessness. I always drive within the legal and safe limits and the use of cruise ensures speed limits are not broken. You know as well as I that the Sprinter is capable of maintaining 70mph on appropriate roads
and, compared with towing, that is fast.

And so ends  the lesson according to TW. Let's just agree to differ and stop this point scoring shall we?....Cool

I'm all in favour of live and let live, BT. I'm merely stating my viewpoint and it's not me trying to score points. I find your post rather unnecessary, frankly.

Please TW, we all have our own view points and many motorhomers do wave to each other, it's often passengers who wave so the driver doesn't have to be involved.  It's a friendly gesture all the same. Enough said.Smile

I quite agree, Brue, but remember who started the barbed comments aimed at me. If you do that, you must expect a response.

There is a difference between 'could not' and choosing not to for the sake of safety, DD. Likewise, a difference between 'over concentrating' and being sensible. I know which applies to me - the sensible route. You are absolutely correct in what you say,
    though.

I am in the process of reading a book called Roadcraft, which is the police training driving manual. All that Tinwheeler has stated is in agreement with the manual. Part of the manual states that scanning the road ahead for situations developing is vital
to safe driving. However nice it is to be friendly to people, looking at them and waving means that whilst the friendly wave is being carried out, full concentration is being compromised. I know that it is impossible to drive perfectly but constantly waving
    decreases concentration levels.

We are all probably guilty of taking our eyes off the road momentarily but, if it was so dangerous, I would have thought that roadside advertising would be banned

There are rules and regs about it, TF, but I suspect it's another thing that isn't, or cant be, enforced.

I've just been out in my car and I saw my friend coming the other way in his van  ,I put my hand up to him and he waved back ,we both made it safely home and no carnage was caused on the roads Smile

It presumably applies to only a segment of MHs anyway does it not? The coachbuilts.

I drive an "A" class. I look down on them

I drive a PVC. I know my place.  Although perhaps they tug forelocks. Wink

We always wave , had lots who don't wave back we find those who don't wave back are usually sportspersons towing there motorbikes / banger cars ect , which you don't see until last its to late ,when one asked us at the services why we waved and I explained
right he said I shall wave back from now on , then you have the garage or salesman transporting them to And fro so yes you will get some who don't wave Cool

This is a bit of a giggle but with serious undertones.

Would you state any of the following after an accident? Some are clearly ridiculous but only you can decide which ones.

The Pokemon I was following got on a bus.

I didn't realise that flashing headlights was a warning of a hidden hazard.

I only exceeded the speed limit for a few minutes.

I have never seen hand signals before.

I was waving to someone I didn't know when the child ran out.

"Full concentration is being compromised"  Ahem !! How about lighting up a fag, eating an ice cream tuning in the car radio ,using a mobile phone ( Oh !! and the Police using thier radios ) !! ?? If there is ANYONE incapable of multitasking when
driving ,then in my opinion they are 'robots' or Zombies and should'nt be on the road ..'C/mon ,we all have grown up with diverse talents to enable us to survive in todays world .

It was one of the annoying things about owning  motorhomes a complete stranger waving at us, even from the other side of a dual carriageway!

With so many motorcaravans on the roads these days I wave less and are waved to less. What I do find is that I and other folk are still waving though to same type i.e. VW camper van/a class/panel van etc. or just same make/model.
