We have been members of the Caravan club for over 6 years and have Owned both caravans and motorhomes and as a Motorhome user which there are many in the club we feel it would be a good idea to change the name to The Caravan and Motorhome club which us motorhomers feel as important as caravan owners.

Just think of them as motorcaravans.

I think legislation refers to motorhomes as motorcaravans so I suppose they are covered by the brand?

For true inclusivity the name would have to cover trailer tents, campervans, etc and would become a bit of a mouthful

Good point BL, to make it even more inclusive as there aren't just Caravans & Motorhomes used by Members, why not-'The Leisure Vehicle Club' that would encompass all modes usedHappy

How much do you think, that is going to cost the membership in changing all the signage and paperwork.

To me everyone is a member, wether they use a Caravan or Motorhome and each have the same rights within the club.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the title  " the caravan club" -- It encompasses both types of caravans--- motor Caravans and Towed Caravans.

Is there a Champ around? Perhaps Badgers's post should be edited for his own security?

Personally, no great fan of name changes, having endured a good few whilst I was working, and seeing all the extra budget required for logo changes, reprinted paper, signage and uniform embroidery.

If it has to change though, how about something classy such as "The Touring Club"? Encompasses all forms of holidaying in boxes and canvas, and as "touring" is a favourite term amongst cyclists, may bring in a few extra members who use their bikes and tents
    for their holidays? Happy

Despite being a motorhomer now I am not sure I would support the idea of a name change because the "The Caravan Club" is quite an historic name and it would be a shame to see it go. I am more for a change of Club attitude towards the requirements of motorhomers
like better service points which I am sure will come in time.

agreed, no need for a change, too expensive and it wont be 'right' whatever is decided....

BTW, the "touring club" 'ought' to be on the right lines but i really dont think that, in this country on club sites, one can 'tour' in the way many want to....just upping sticks on no particular day, pootling around all day and then deciding at tea time
roughly where you might get your head down.

not the clubs 'fault' just weight of numbers and the booking culture....

so, Caravan Club will do......for now.

On the whole, have to agree with you DK, lot of history. I think Beaulieu Motor Museum has a small section dedicated to Club memorabilia, might be another museum, not sure?

I think it is more of a mindset change regarding new developments and attracting new blood into the Club, happening slowly, but of course lots of the sites are now very old, and require changes to cope with bigger vans and awnings, motorhomes and all the
extras that now are expected by most people who get into caravans and MHs. Not easy balancing new requirements with much of the aspects beloved of long term members, but little by little things change.

Changing the name of a limited company isn't as simple as some may think.  You have to think of every aspect of the business from staff contracts, IT, payroll services, insurances, admin, site signs etc. and all the other stuff already mention.   Can't imagine
the CC would want to bear the costs of such a change and I for one wouldn't want my membership fees to be spent in what many would consider a pointless exercise.

Definitely one of the aspects that have changed BB, certainly in last 15 years or so. We never used to book a site like Marazion for our long Summer break, but suppose you have to nowadays. We still manage to tour successfully in GB, but we don't limit our
options too much other than by price. Some CLs are very popular though, so using these means booking very early if you want a particular date.

. The Caravan Club was founded in 1907 some 103 years ago before you came on the scene, I wouldn't dare suggest or tell a company to change their name to please me so why should you? If it were my company and the same happened to me I would say jog on

I think you will find The Caravan Club had a slight name change in 1959 KFC, so things do alter occasionally.

Why change the name? The original caravaners lived in tents. The name caravan covers us all, motorised or otherwise,

I worked in a Local Authority Department that changed its name some 5 times in 10 years. Shocking waste of money!
