I am looking at color lite ,and dropped in to our local supplier , and was told you can not swap steel  cylinders for " lite" , but that might just be them

...any particular reason for the swap....?

weight in the van, weight to physically swap in the locker...

i guess not cost as they are dearer....?

BB, that was an answer to M's post

the M/H is set up for propane ,and i only have a 4.5kg butane, so seeing as we plan to use more gas and i have to buy a bottle i thought i would go for "lite"

i guess the little butane bottle was used in your caravan..?

althought your new van is 'set up for propane' this only means you have a propane pigtail (POL bullet shaped end...) so ypu could easily use the remainder of your butane bottle (if you wanted to)  by using the pigtail currently in ypur caravan or with a
cheap adaptor for your 'propane' pigtail....

so, if you are planning to use more gas, i guess you are looking to take out contracts on two propane bottles....

notwithstanding Mikes offer above, these initial contracts (based on calor 6kg Propane) will cost 60+ each.....£120 plus high refill costs, and lifting into lockers etc...

a refillable Gasit 6kg system incliding filler point and hose on eBay is £165....

fill anywhere, any country, quarter of the price, no handing back unused gas when swapping (just in case), top up when getting diesel, no lifting and (with an adaptor, you could still use  your butane bottle as backup....

at these costs, worth thinking about.....

FYI Calor say that there is a nationwide scarcity of Calorlite bottles;I have just spent the last three days helping a warden mate of mine get his site ready for the season. When the Calor lorry came he was only allowed two 6kg  Calorlite bottles(pre BH remember)
but the rest of his order was all steel bottles despite ordering a dozen of the lite version. The driver cited national scarcity as the reason for the short order. He was not impressed!

....no Lite prices available on the calor site (all others available) hence my costs above drawn from 6kg propane....Happy

It's not £60 for just the rental each but still expensive when you add the gas.  I paid £23.50 for my last calorlite refill so you'd be better off with a refillable than two calorlites unless you can pick up an empty somewhere.  Or what about getting a single bigger propane?

Calorlite is group C  This is taken from Calor's website on this link

    Group A, B & D £39.99
    Group C £44.99
    Group E £59.99
    Group F £19.99
    Group G

    £29.99

Jay, AFAIK, your link is for additional cylinders for existing customers....

one off new price for (eg) 6kg propane is as below.....

    6kg Propane gas bottle

     Refill - £20.25 New bottle - £60.24

Our 6kg Propane gas bottle is an ideal solution for fuelling heating and cooking in your caravan, all year round.

as i said, the link for the Lite bottle on this page is the only one that doesnt come up with a price...

im not sure if Husky's locker will take a larger (13kg) bottle as this crossed my mind due to the cheaper refills...

Husky already has a cylinder so he's getting an additional one Undecided

Your example is the same though. £39.99 for the rental

doesnt he want an additional two....? he only has a small butane bottle which might not even be calor and he isnt going to use.

.....So, £60+ for each full bottle.....£120+....

BB I wasn't arguing with you about the cost. I was providing information about the rental which is higher for calorlite and the refill costs more too.

I do buy this stuff so can provide input on refill costs Wink

    ...nor i with youHappy

my point was exactly the same....lite prices are even higher than Propane, which will cost husky at least £120 for the first two cylinders and then a refill which is also high as you say....

having to shell put this sort of money does bring a single refillable system at £165 right into focus, bearing in mind the refill cost will be £5/6 rather than another £20+.

for those who already have bottles, and use little gas.....cant justify...but if you are going to have to pay a large upfront cost for (two) new contracts and plan to use more gas and plan to go abroad.....it becomes more of a thing to consider, notwithstanding
    the convenience side....

another tack would be just to ask the dealer to put two full bottles in the lockerWink....thats what we did on our last Bolero..

New to Caravaning after a 20 year absence.  I am about to change my two steel Calor 7kg Bottles for two Calor 6kg Light Bottles.  What is the availabilty of the Light Refills on sites around the UK, easy or not?  I dont want to run out of gas anywhere and
find only steel available.  I am also planning on spending November to February in France and Spain.  Any member(s) have insight on this please.

My question to members was not about swapping light for steel. Calor have said in a statement that they have instructed all there suppliers in the UK not to exchange light for steel anymore.  I'm not interested in the steel ones, I have two Light Bottles.
My Question is about Availabilty of the Light Bottles on the various CC sites around the UK. Are they readily available to exchange on the sites or not.  Some good if you run out and the site does not stock Light, you would probably then have
to run around a few miles to find a Light Refill stockist?  Any one have first hand knowledge of the availabilty of Light Bottles on CC sites?

To Beau again,as in my previous post I have had no trouble in exchanging calor life's cylinders whether on site or at my local calor dealer ,even when the recall was on.One exchange was at the CC national, and they had a truck full! Even if you do run out
at least with a second cylinder it surely won't be a panic.

    Hi Beau,

i have two Calor light cylinders that I no longer need, they both need swapping as there has been a recall notice on them,. I live in South Yorks if you're interested in them.
