PS, I get six weeks abroad in the sunshine for the same cost as some pay for a week in a 5* hotel
My 5* Hol would be exactly what I want, your Hol suits you-excellent. Time to celebrate choice. . . .However different they may be
Write your comments here...Hahahaha absolutely right I will think of you and everyone else when I am sitting on my beach side pitch in Venice @ €15 a night. xxx
Thankyou, to return the compliment I will think of you when I crank up the Aircon & wait for another round of drinks to be brought

For us coming from Scotland, the only extra expense is the ferry cost and RP, this cost is easily recovered by the cheaper fuel cost and cheaper site fees. If we were to spend our 11 weeks in the South of England it would mean a gamble on the weather and
much higher site fees, so now we are retired we choose to spend our time across the water. There will be plenty of time to see areas of the UK when we get old0 -

some enjoy both styles....
a few weeks ago, golfing at a 5* spa hotel in the canaries....
soon to get back to 'scrabbling around dust bows in my mini-bus - traveller style'
i'll enjoy each equally......
main differences....practicing the language, wonderful food, better weather, clocks one hour fwd, lower living costs, open uncrowded smooth roads, uncrowded cheap sites with great facilities, the 'aires' system, friendly open culture.....etc, etc
....thats France, by the way
the main benefit, IMHO, is the clock change coupled with better weather....
to be able to eat outside well into the evening in shorts and shirt sleeves is a huge attraction for many, including us...

Agree BB, we also like both or many differant types of holidays. Just back from 3 weeks in a 5* resort in the Canaries, off in a few weeks to Spain/Portugal/France then back home for the silly season. A week on a canal boat with big Sis and BIL followed
by a couple of weeks somewhere around Yorkshire or the lakes, before heading home and setting off to Gran Canaria for 2 weeks in a private villa with pool. Probably do a cruise at the end of the year. So many choices, but I've yet to spend my holiday in a
dust bowl0 -
you lucky pair....

To the above posts-my apologies for mentioning 5* accommodation it has obviously hit your pride to the extent you have the need to show
you too can enjoy/afford it. I accept it is nothing special purely a choice. If it helps I have also at times used 4*. To save you having to post again. . . .You too have probably used this level of accommodation too, I accept that-well done0 -
Did I ever mention the time we spent three weeks touring the Canadian Rockies followed by a luxurious cruise up to Glacier Bay in Alaska?
Well ....... oh heck, they've call stopped listening!
...No but do tell OH fancies doing it sometime.

arent we (some) in danger of dragging this thread (especially bumped by Steve for the purpose...) into the void.....(Black Sabbath....)
perhaps Jay, Rocky and Moulesy can give us a bit more insight into their vanning experiences highlighting the differences between here and there in line with the OP

tut-tut, BB you are letting things slip again I have told you time & again I don't(do not) do tugging or mini-bus trips in Europe. . . .5*
Hotels only on my European breaks. To paraphrase you. . . .'wake up at the back' take a shot by all means but please ensure your powder is dry & you're not half cocked. You do disappoint at times0 -

you dont disappoint at all...as predictable as night and day

Last time I ever wish someone well for their travels.
Point out where I have said that travel to other countries is not worthwhile however you choose to do it.
you're the sharpest knife in the box when it comes to berating folk for thread-wander in other sections....
yet a little reminder for those who have done the same to this thread seems to have struck a chord....
sorry, but Steve made the effort to get this up and running in lieu of the thread where others had their wrist slapped, so lets try and keep it on track....there arent many of these....

I don't often post where the usual protaganists post. however the orignal question was answered ages ago the only difference between here and there is a "T" there will or so it appears to the outsider always be those that advocate the There and those that advocate the Here The Big Question is Surely does it matter as long as you Enjoy!!!
Personally i do not give a T++S what other people think is the ideal break as long as i Enjoy mine!!!

Good point, Jeff, but I want everyone to enjoy their break no matter how or where they choose to do it. People get hung up on insisting their way is the only/best way and we all know it's not so and their petulance at times is frankly laughable as we're all here with one end in mind - to have the best holiday of the type that suits us. Long may we all enjoy our holidays - home, abroad, vanning, cruising, 5* hotels or whatever.

No chord struck I'm afraid. My post to husky wasn't so very far off topic but it was good to see someone get on their high horse. More than one adds to my amusement.

Sorry got to post again and remind people? this is a forum
Allegedly for people with the same hobby? i.e.
(camping/caravanning/motorhome/ gypsy(look the last one up if you doubt it) Not a vehicle for trying to impose ones personal views on other people....
Thats why i retired 15yrs ago age 45 to enjoy my hobby and make the most of my life before i pass( terminal illness) and still here because i dont take anything seriously. Life is to short and if you are in any doubt remember live life as though tomorrow
is your last day on earth. As some day it will Be0 -
At the risk of sparking off a further bout of 'ya boo sucks' responses, I am a little puzzled by the implication in some posts that caravanning on the continent is, in some way, 'slumming it'. If that is the case, how does it not apply equally to caravanning
in the UK?0 -

in the UK?I think that is just your perception, CY. Some people prefer holidaying abroad by other means, that's all. You would surely understand that having an apartment in Spain. How could using the same caravan both here and there be 'slumming it' in one place but
not in the other?0 -
The main differance that we found when we tugged abroad was that, as some have said, because there is so much more space compared to here, there is ,in the "peak" anyway, far more places to stop, and because of that there are far more extremes of quality of sites,so if touring, unless as we found booking the sites via a reputable organisation, you can get some, compared to the uk,nasty suprises, but when we now venture "over there" its with someone else doing the "driving"with guaranteed 4* or 5* facilities at the end
