I bought a snooper 6800 when I got my auto trail motorhome new in March 2015. It never worked and only picked up signal intermittently. I had 3 replacements sent over 12 months non worked snooper told my it was my auto trail blocking the signal and they
gave me a full refund. I now use a cheap Garmin I bought in Italy when the snooper failed me. 4000 miles so far never let me down. Seems from here there is problems with all the ones produced for motorhomes ?0 -

Seems from here there is problems with all the ones produced for motorhomes ?We have the same model and would not recommend one to anybody . Currently using the second replacement it now locks up when it feels like it , usually at an important junction plus it can't be trusted to take you to a site using the 'by the book' method
it's not always correct - so what use is that ? This second models volume control is way too loud even at minimum and have had to tape up the sound hole to make it useable. Snooper don't buy !!!0 -
Having a dataset of over 2260 Motorhome Parking POIs and the desire to add other 3rd party datasets I wouldn't buy either Snooper or Aguri. My notes on my personal experiences, with a link to an ongoing, unscientific, comparison of three model are

My SatNav is kept on the passenger seat of our motorhome.
'The Wife' (version 1) uses various map books and has the default setting of 'knows best'
It comes pre-loaded with voice commands including:
'I'm not sure, try that one'
'O, it was that turning'
'Well why did you bother asking then'
and you know what, I love her to bits!

It's interesting to read the Snooper comments, I've had a S7000 Ventura for years and it's been excellent, very reliable and good routing - every sat nav will throw up a poor route now and again, which is why you should always carry a map, and I tend to
double check the suggested route, however I've rarely had to change from the suggested one. It's a puzzle that I've had no real problems when so many seem to have had so many.

Same here had mine about 2 years and so far not had a problem in both UK and Europe.

We're now back in Blighty after touring all of Italy using our Tomtom start 25 with camper and caravan maps and it has been brilliant all the time. Much better than our toll tag unit which packed up within two days and ended up with us reversing back down
the telepass land on the autostrada. Stress!!!0 -
ive got a garmin nuvi 2007 version ,icould do with the maps updated, seems a bit of a pain trying to update. help appreciated !!!
Write your comments here...Snips - I emailed for help and they have answered - I think the key is to make sure all firewalls etc are switched off - my update hasn't been completed yet - on the list of TO DOs which is getting longer by the minute! Advice on this satnav - do check it against the CC book for sites - especially St David's - it takes you the wrong way and marks the site on the wrong side of the road! I will not trust it again! Maybe foolish to trust it in the first place - but they sell it as marking CCsites. Strangely it seems to be more accurate with ACSI sites - but its back to the book for me now.

Pippa, its not the satnav thats wrong, per se, as the provided coordinates of the sites may well be wrong....we have found ACSI to be spot on...
always check the planned route of a satnav against a map, and against googlemaps for the final couple of miles.
many satnavs dont seem to have a 'route overview' function, merely a list of turn instructions, chocolate fireguard comes to mind.

Pretty much the same experience on our recent seven week trip to Austria with our TomTom Start 60 + Camper Maps. I have Archie's POI's loaded which are very reliable. Not sure I would have got across Vienna without it!!!

Write your comments here...Yes I have learnt BB - always did it before but it seems I could have saved my money and uploaded Archie's files - the Garmin was just another advertising gimmick not to believe but at the time it seemed reasonable to trust! Incidentally
the ACSI point for St Neot's 3 Cs site is correct on the Sat Nav the Post Code is not if anyone is looking for that one - get it from the Book!0 -
I would strongly advise not to purchase the newer range of Tomtom 5000 / 6000 series with free map and traffic updates, if you are towing or have a larger mhome. For a car, probably best on the market at the moment.
I have subscribed to a thread on the outandaboutlive MMM site detailing my observations and experiences. I cannot do linky things on my tablet :-((

We have the same Tom Tom Start 60 as David but OH left it at home on our last trip for 9 weeks In Germany and Austria.
but he had in the car a cheap Sat Nav we bought on EBay for Truck or Car and Caravan £34 and it is brilliant large screen, loads on it inc free map update and never let us down once equal to the Tom Tom no doubt.

My apologies for not replying, I didn't check back on the thread. I'm getting lazy and expect a email from a forum when there is continuing correspondence on a thread. Summat CC forums do not do (I think ?)
I recently changed my TomTom because of the £100 a year required for updating maps and traffic on the older TomTom. Halfords had a sale and I purchased a TT5000, I understood there were changes from the previous TTs but did not expect such a difference in design an approach.
There is a thread >> here << where I had my little rant !!
In answer to your question, I am still making up my mind. It’s of little use as a m/home or caravan satnav, but is OK for a car, if you like to take a risk.
I take the view that if I cannot trust it in my home town, can I trust it elsewhere? For example going from A to B, it will give me a “sensible” route, Going from B to A, because the route is mainly LH turns, it gives a shorter route, but takes me through single lane streets with cars parked each side, the demo speed shows the speed of 30mph. 20 mph would be too fast in some places, maybe shorter, but certainly no quicker.
My older TT satnav gives me the same “sensible” route in both directions.
The newer TT does have some sensible innovations, but some poor redesign of other functions.

Most recent TomTom models have had to be up-dated via My Drive online unlike previous models where you could just drag files into the map folder just on a computer. I understand the reason is that TomTom have some sort of falling out with Microsoft and the sat navs are no longer FAT32 compatable.
Have you thought about adding the Camper Maps to your device? That is what I did with my Start 60 and they work really well.

Thanks for your replies.
Re; MyCloud. I can see a use for using MyCloud if you are always internet connected, but using having to use wifi does seem a little servere when you have to plug the TT into a PC to download the maps !! ( And have a cable to hand)I understand your point regarding Msoft fat32, but again seems strange that you have to faff about with microsim cards if you want to load tracks ( routes ?) which I assume are fat32 based data. Still have my cable for down
loading the maps. I could use.Unfortuately TT do not have camper maps for the TT 5000/6000 satnavs. Maybe they have differnt processors so the OS needs to be rewritten. Thats how I read the TT camp maps compatibility web page. Also I have a feeling that
maps and traffic become subscription based if you take up this option. That said, on the TT forums, there are a couple of TT staff members who have been very helpful with a number of my queries,
Ref: Email replies
I have taken a look at my profile and see that CC is quite willing to email me insurance quotes for nearly everything that is insureable, and also for advice and sales from their partners (??). But nowhere can I find a box
to tick to say "send me a mail if some comments on my rants ;-)"So if anyone knows, please leave a clue.

Heres a warning to those who are considering buying a Camper Sat Nav. Stay away from the Garmin Camper 610, its rubbish. We used it to travel to the Sth of France this year and it got us lost time after time. Thank God i just happened to put my very old
TomTom in the car. It got us to each stop with no trouble. The Garmin doesnt know shortest routes, it doesnt have a half desent active lane control. Wasted £250. Be warned dispite other reviews. As a long distant lorry driver i use a relatively cheap lorry
Sat Nav which over the last 5 years has never let me down. I tried using the Garmin inline with the lorry Sat Nav and the Garmin failed evertime time to select the shortest route and failed to give adequate notice of lane changes. Which when towing a 40 foot
trailer or towing a 26 foot long Caravan on busy roads in France is vital. So youve been warned.0 -

So youve been warned.I don't have the Garmin Camper but was surprised by your reference to shortest route. If I select this as an option on my inbuilt sat nav, it selects some very dubious routes, that I certainly would not want to tow on. I find the safest option is to select
fastest, as this sticks to main routes in order to keep the average speed up. Still not totally error free, so I always review what it has chosen. However, it is usually OK apart from sometimes the final bit to the site, which has to be done using old fashioned

We are thinking of getting a new unit for the MH. The built in one has issues going wrong and freezing just at the wrong moment and the old TomTom we have seems to direct us down odd roads even when fastest route is chosen, also the maps need updating and at £60 I am reluctant to buy plus the small screen is a long way away for my eyes...
So looking at the TomTom 5200 or 6200, not sure if I want the 5 or 6 inch screen but the way the eyesight is going will probably get the 6" once I pop to Halfords to look. Anyone out there got one of these units?

Write your comments here...Like yourself. The Tomtom that we have sends us on crazy routes despite checking the settings are correct. Unless Tomtom sort it out, I shall not part with a penny on any of their products.

Write your comments here...given the comments on other systems TomTom seem to be th e best. We did a test on holiday last wek and had both the inbuilt and the TomTom units set for the same destination and the TomTom seemed to take the route with most major
roads whereas teh inbuilt one tried to take us down odd roads more often whhich was strange as they are both TomTom maps...0 -
I agree that it is unwise to select the shortest route option for even the camper/lorry units will send you down unsuitable roads when towing unless there is a
statutory width or height restriction on the route that the software is aware of.0
