If it's not what I ordered then I would flatly refuse to touch it. Are they hoping that you'll agree to keep it?  What do they expect you to do with it if it isn't what you ordered and paid a deposit on?

If you paid your deposit by credit card, can you not get your deposit back and tell them you wish to cancel the order?

It's not what you ordered. Keep your  p x caravan and walk away. Tell the dealer that to contact you when what you ordered arrives. Do not accept what you don't want.

if you ordered a special edition model, and it says that on your paperwork ,and you do not have that then walk away

The dealer is in breach of contract - walk away till he produces what  you want - or you find someone who will.  Very disappointing but sadly this seems not to be an isolated case.

If its not what you ordered, two choices, first walk away and refuse to accept it or negotiate a discount if you feel that may alleviate your disappointment. I would suggest you check the retail price of the caravan you are being offered against what you
    ordered.

Surely you instructed the dealer as part of the contract to do these extra parts on the Special Addition van and he has done them not on the van you contracted him to supply and its his error he did the work on the wrong van.

If he as a dealer doesnt know the difference between a standard van and a SE he is an indiot.

If youre a member of the CC speak to the legal helpline

If the caravan is not exactly what you ordered there is no requirement for you to accept it and unless they can provide your specified order then after a reasonable period then you are entitled to your deposit back.

If extras were added by the dealer to the wrong caravan this is not your problem but they can always use them as an incentive when selling elsewhere.

I would not take the caravan offered on loan as there are far too many pitfalls. What happens if it suffers any damage from use  or accident?

I would listen to the clubs legal advice who should be able to get your wording right.

Refuse the caravan,,30k is a lot of money & you are entitled to your deposit back,,it sounds to me like the dealer as dropped a boo boo & is trying to palm you off with something else.Tell them the deal is off unless they can get the van you ordered,if you
take the van he has offered you you won't be happy with it & you & your wife will be disapointed.

Actually I think that this vital.   As spending on a credit card  protects you up to  £30k.   You should do nothing until you get proper legal advice as others have said.   It sounds like your dealer is trying to rush you into handing over the money.  If
you do you will loose the best lever you have.

It’s difficult to advise without knowing all the details. There’s nothing to sat that a rogue dealer is involved here, although it might be prudent to assume the worst. I’d offer only part payment and withhold the remainder until it’s all sorted.

Yes, call the Legal eagles at Grimstead House, my view is if it's not what you ordered I think you should demand your deposit back. Eight weeks on the other hand will give you plenty of time to start 2016 with a new van for the new season

Really sorry to hear this story.  I agree with the above posts.  I would say you have no obligation to purchase the van and I would contact the legal people at East Grinstead.  Do let us know how you get on.

Glad to hear you've got a positive result.  Hope you don't have to wait too long before getting the van you really want and can then move on and enjoy your hobby.

Great to hear the positive result you had. Seems they really tried it on didn't they. Good hunting for a new van. 30k will buy you a cracker and don't accept second best and get the layout etc you want.Smile

So glad you didn't have to settle for something you weren't happy with - what a nerve to try and bully you when they were in the wrong.  I hope you find something that really suits you and cheers up your wife!

Another fine example of the great advice given on CT and by the CC!

...Absolutely right.  If the dealer is not providing you with what you contracted to purchase then you can demand that either he does or you want your deposit back immediately.  If in doubt, contact the Citizen's Advice Bureau who will confirm this.

Good news in the end although a stressful time. I agree with everyone else, take your time to find something you really like and will be happy with. It does appear as the dealer had made a mistake and tried to fob you off - very poor in my opinion

Hope all goes well but Lunar were a bit late delivering ours. I note the Delta has won again with Caravan Magazines best layout.

My father in law lived to 96 and my mother is 91. They both assumed tbey would not ladt that long and have renewed a lot they thought would see them out. You should simply replace what you want when you feel it is time to do so or when you want and make
your life as easy as possible as you have earned it.

Thank you for your response Cabbiemick, and I'm really pleased that the good folk at East Grinstead gave you good advice and the confidence to do the right thing.  Please to hear that you have your sights set on another van, and hope this one works out for
    you.
