Hi.  We are new to caravanning this year and have decided as the kids are now grown up we would like to spend christmas and new year away in our new van, perhaps meet some new friends.

Has anyway got any ideas where we could go?  We dont mind travelling in the UK.

    Hi and welcome to caravaning.

Tricky to answer your question without more info, what do you like to do, walk, eat, historical buildings etc etc?

how far do you want to travel and where is base?

    cheers

Hello Ken and Lorn. Welcome to Club Together. My wife and I are spending a few days over Christmas at a CL near Looe in Cornwall. If you are prepared to travel down that far then let me know and tomorrow I will give you the phone number and you can ring
the site regarding pitch availability. Have a happy adventure.

We enjoyed Edinburgh last hogmanay using the main CC site from where you can walk and catch a good bus service into the capital. Plenty to see and do. Its a busy site though and will be booked up early but if you keep checking cancellations do appear.

Look at Centre rallies.  If you like to socialise then you might find they are right for you.  You don't need to go to your local centre.  Enjoy the festive season

Hello Kenandlorn. Just a tip for Winter travelling. Remember the weather can change very quickly, so don't commit to a big none refundable deposit if you can help it. That said, Club Sites are good, no deposits are required, and you can cancel if the weather
does change, so long as you do it within the rules. CLs are also usually very understanding, recognising that a long trip in thick snow may not be feasible!

On a positive note, it is great being away over Xmas, although don't forget that a lot of places are closed. Why not take a look at the wealth of Christmas events that are on and take in some of these? We like Christmas fairs and markets, although they are
held a tad before Christmas itself. Have a nice time!Happy

Other half fancies a christmas away but I am not so keen. No problem the week after.

I am going to suggest we sit in the caravan for a few hours this coming christmas to see how it feels (it's stored next to the house) Happy

I think it depends where you go, how busy the place you are staying is, and what you like to do! There will be few places other than pubs/restaurants open, but if you like walking, then Christmas Day is usually quiet and very nice. Boxing Day however brings
    out hoards!

Whitby and the NYMoors are lovely at Christmas, especially if your tow car can cope with snow and ice, scenery is magical. Scotland is a great place, like others have mentioned, Edinburgh is fantastic at New Year.

Club Sites are nice at Christmas, everyone trims up. What about Ferry Meadows, not too far from East Yorks, lovely parkland to walk, easy cycle into Peterborough, railway might be open?

    Hello and welcome to CT.

You might want to look at the thread "Christmas CL" in the Certified Listed section for ideas on CL's at Christmas.

I would recommend Skybarn Farm near Lincoln. Cool

Write your comments here...A bit of walking, though not a lot as Im recovering from a fractured hip and pelvis.  Love ancient buildings, scenic areas as I've recently taken up  a new hobby with nsture photography,  peace and quiet, hoping to get back into fishing, looking to be more adults sites now, pet friendly,

We make our own jewellery and crafts, all inspired by nature, and hoping to incorporate my photography into crafts as well.

We have been going through a tough few years this past decade with one thing and another, so we are hoping this is a new start, with new friends, and new hobbies.

Base is currently Hull in East Yorkshire, (hopefully not for long) but we will and do travel all over from the south coast up.  This summer we were travelling from Shropshire, to Norfolk, to hastings, to  Hebden Bridge, to the Borders so distance isnt an issue if its relaxing and fun.  Our caravan is stored at WHITEWATER Park so even further north is an option, or even Wales.

We have been going away over Christmas for the last 7 years. This year we go mid December and stay until 28th December. Thoroughly enjoy spending quality time together. I buy most of the silly presents for OH whilst away as we go into town one morning, seperate
and do our shopping and meet up for lunch. We both hate present shopping and rarely have anything that we want bought for us. We limit presents to £15 each. We are not tightwads but see no point in expensive presents that are put into a drawer unused.

We go for walks most days and are usually out and about from 9am until 2 or 3pm. If we stayed at home we would do very little truth be told.

Welcome to Club Together, Ken and Lorn. If you are planning on having Christmas dinner in your caravan, make sure the turkey you buy is small enough to fit in your caravan oven!

    Hi

We are also new to caravanning and would be grateful for similar advice.  We have 2 girls, aged 14 and 10 who have asked if we could go somewhere in the caravan for Christmas. We are based in West Yorkshire.  Is it something families would do?? Any advice/recommends
for any sites would be gratefully received!

There are a number of Rallies that are run by local centres, and always have entertainment for both adults & children. Ever thought of trying them?

    Hi there all

Great suggestions above. Please also note that 2 of our Club sites offer Christmas meals & festivities in the onsite restaurants: Hillhead at Brixham and Seacroft at Cromer. Check the website for pitch availability and then to book Christmas dinner please
    call the site direct.

Is it too early to wish every one Very Merry Christmas wherever you end up... let the Festive adventures begin!

Write your comments here...Yes the site is not a CC club but the standard is very high and the toilet facilities are individual rooms ,underfloor heated complete with shower and toilet facilities spotless and self contained. The qwuality of entertainment is first class. The restaurant and bar is good and the conservatory is used for  dining as well. Worth a look at to get away from cooking, washing and looking after family members, Details can be found on line or in most caravan journals. SG
