Internet charges
we have just come back from a weekend in bridlinton our first time on a cc site, the site was clean and tidy shower block was clean, loverly site. we decided to buy a years worth of wifi as we have other weekends booked over the year thinking it would be cheaper to do so, we thought that all three of use would be able to use the internet at the same time but no only one person at a time, so this would mean £75 per year or £7.50 per 24 hours, this is a right rip of sureley it should be per van and not per person.

Its per appliance, which when you consider the cost you are paying at home is in my opinion very good value, and just think how overloaded the bandwidth would be,as there are some people who already abuse the what is on offer as per the wifi guidelines by
streaming loads of things it is not designed for0 -
One commercial site we stayed on wanted £10 for the week and it was device specific. At least with the CC you can log out with one device and log in on another. Being realistic if you were able to attach as many devices as you wanted and were with a group
of friends, perhaps 8 to 10 devices could be attached for the one fee. Not very good from the CC's point of view.0 -
Basically it is a service. You have to decide if you want internet access and if so if you are willing to pay the price. Have to say I never thought it was for more than one receiver at once but not sure if there is anything to say either way.

I have an iboost which searches out wifi spots from quite a distance away, although I don't use it very much, I am sure it can turn your motorhome into a wifi hotspot which means you can use more than one device at a time. Of course, CC wifi might stop this.
Worth looking around the campsite to see if anyone has an iboost on the van, have a chat to them, they might let you log on, sometimes it may not be password protected and would show on a wifi search but of course I maybe wrong.0 -
Why can't it be free? When I travel abroad 95% of sites provide free wi-fi, albeit some are only in the vicinity of the bar..but that's good business sense if you think about it.
Why can't it be free? Because someone has to pay for it. Nothing is 'free'. It either gets added to and included in everyone's pitch fee or those who want it pay the asking price. We are talking about CC sites here, not those abroad, and not commercial sites
with bars. Good business sense? I doubt it very much for CC. I don't want to see my membership fee or pitch fees being used to subsidise a second class wifi service.0 -
IMO the £25 charge is reasonable value, if you are visiting quite a few sites as we do. The service is variable, depending on site location / available bandwidth. However, we have rarely not been able to use the service for emails and general browsing. The
main advantage of the service is on sites remote from 3G coverage. The one thing I find somewhat annoying, is that folk can use up band width on the club site and CT without paying. Thus reducing that available to those who have subscribed.0 -
I don't think £25 is unreasonable, Steve, but I won't pay it because I've had more bad experiences than good with site wifi.
I think the idea of accessing the CC website FOC is to encourage people to make bookings.

We access the internet on our 2 iPads by tethering them to my iPhone which has 3g & 4g depending on where the site is. We could use it to stream video but in reality we use it for FaceBook and in my case for answering emails from customers. It is always
on, never overloaded and its included in the £15 per month I pay for my mobile phone package.0 -
There should be a two level service. A free one suitable for reading emails and such and a pay one with faster speeds for those who want to spend more time online.
Remus, why should there be such a service as you describe? Could if be that it would suit you personally? As I said on the previous page, nothing is 'free'. It either gets added to and included in everyone's pitch
fee, or those who want it pay the asking price. I don't want to see my membership fee or pitch fees being used to subsidise a second class wifi service.0 -

There would be little point, without spending vast sums of money it would not be possible to provide a high speed service for such a concentrated number of people. It is also unlikely anyone would want to pay for it, if the basic service was included in
the price. This would leave the CC with no option but to recover the cost of installation by further increasing site or membership fees. The system we have at the moment is very fair. If you want internet access you pay for it, If you don't you don't. Access
to the CC's site including CT is free, so you can book sites, or even post without subscribing.0 -
We get "free" tarmac roads whether we need them or not; "free" night time lighting whether we want it or not; "free" early morning alarm calls from mowers whether we want them or not; "free" provision of EHUs whether we use them or not; and there are more.
So why not free wifi? The argument about amount of usage does not hold up when compared to being able to use the toilets as much as one wants - also "free".

You know as well as I that none of it is 'free', Nav. I wouldn't mind the wifi comprising part of an all inclusive pitch fee, as the other items do, providing it gave good service.

Write your comments here... Not to mention the free kids play area when you have no kids with you, and ditto the dog walk. And the free toilets and showers when you have your own in tne 'van. If wifi is available on site it should be as free as the rest
of the services - ie, included in the pitch price.0 -

Clearly of course it is not free, I for one pay £25 a year for it and I am happy to do so. If it is included in the pitch price these will clearly have to rise slightly to cover the cost. Personally as I use the wifi I don't mind either way.
