Rocky's not a horror
Oh, im a horror all right, even more so if it ever gets out I indulge in textual intercourse with all you LV'ing types. Particularly so now the COTY has hit the screens-being a horror is the least of my problems
OK, Rocky, no more TI to save your reputation. It's a good job you got rid of that incriminating caravan.

If COTY had included the most entertaining/humorous CT post, we might have had a proper competition on our hands.

Neoprene, then Lycra. So tell us about this clothing fetish then, Ian.
Write your comments here...I fear this thread is turning into the Rocky Horror show !.
When does IanH wear the fishnet stockings and suspenders then?..
Only when I pop around to your awning, dear......

Those that think it was all intended as a bit of fun please present your evidence.
I think you misunderstood some of the minority posts, mine being one of them. In my mind the intention by the title was something of a serious nature, it didn't happen so we agree there.
The difference is that it doesn't bother me, I'm not upset by it, I'm not leaving the CC, I'm not asking for anyones resignation, I'm not afraid to appear before my neighbours, I will not wear a mask when tugging in case I'm recognised, I'm not a sad individual
and I do not know anyone who hates me ....... well, there is oneAs I have said before, I use the Club for my benefit and when/if that disappears I will leave. After the preview on Youtube I knew what to expect and sat in front of the TV to laugh at the daft antics and was not disappointed in that.
Why you get uptight over a TV programme is quite honestly, beyond me. I shall happily tootle on my way with my 'van' while you all sulk over this
i agree with Dave.....i dont think anything 'serious' happened in the two programs, certainly not so horrendous as to have me ringing the DG or resigning myself...
a daft idea that didn't go particularly well and gave us all a cringeworthy laugh.....
dont see my neighbour on our next French campsite debating it with me.....

I have not seen derogatory comments, only terrifying accurate ones.

We just watched both programmes after fresh back from a lovely weekend away! Had many friends post to my Facebook page to ask "Pip are you going in for this next year?!" Saw the clips so knew it was a light hearted thing. Watched it, was in disbelief with
a lot of it (the Chairman towing a caravan up a hill and ripping the back off) I did lean across to hubby and ask if they were 'half cut!' I have just towed for first time ever, and reversed round a T junction, had to persuade hubby to let me tow, not sure
why so many men think women are not capable as I've seen lots of capable and incapable men and women. I did say to my husband, so glad I towed before I watched this as it would have seriously put me off!!! Anyway as the programme carried on I did chuckle and
sigh and yell at the TV! By next week the programme will be forgotten about, TV editors are like the press, they want drama, they want a reaction, guess they got it. I've taken it with a pinch of salt, although only been caravanning for two years have met
wonderful people, had a fabulous time talking to campers, caravanners, campers and wardens, really love it and how the BBC portray it has been a bit of a shame!0 -
Far too many people on here really need to take a chill pill! The programme was a hoot - it wasn't the Olympics. Many caravanners have their little idiosyncracies, look round any site - to most we accept them as such, some see them as something for ridicule. I've seen some things that folk do in their caravans which aren't my cup of tea, some make me cringe some make me laugh but as long as it flicks their switches who cares pretty sure I will have many of both - if you can't have a laugh them you shouldn't have joined. As for calling for heads on the block etc don't be ridiculous - much of the content of this thread will do more harn to new members than anything on that programme.By coincidence I met COTY John at the weekend - he and 15 other members of his makes group were at Garlieston and they were having a fab time. Lovely guy, keen to share stories and his future plans which would put some members here to shame in terms of miles and adventures. So settle down and enjoy the 15 minutes of fame as next week it will be something else designed to get viewers...

This thread seems to have taken a turn towards lambasting the contestants in several posts. They are fellow members of CC and we shouldn't be disrespectful to them. I feel sorry for them as I feel they were duped and sometimes made to look silly. It's CC,
and GC in particular, I hold in contempt for letting it happen, not the competitors who may well be reading this thread and would be justified in reporting some posts.0 -
The contestants are not to blame, neither is the BBC , the BBC only broadcasted the programme. The program was produce by an independent television company ,which suggest it was probably the caravan clubs idea ,as such probably commission by the caravan club
The blame for the programme falls squarely on the caravan club ,and the members for voting in such individuals, to run the club
The caravan club set the tests
The caravan club choose the finalist
The caravan clubs would have viewed the program before transmission
The caravan club would have given its ok to transmit the programme ,as it was
The program is a window into the Caravan clubs, the image the club want to project of ,caravanning, and it members in general
Finally i would take all of those contestants any day, over the many snotty, unsociable, want nothing to do with others on sites, which increasingly seems to becoming common

If the idea of the programme was to give an insight into caravanning and the enjoyment to be gained from it, I fear the Caravan Club may have made a big mistake. Many members will have been disappointed with the content of the two programmes and the impression
given that we, the members, are not quite sane.0 -
I have no doubt that we will see a raft of letters in the next CC Magazine supporting and extoling the programme. Will we see any of the postings from this thread......dont think so. If the news is all positive then this will clearly demonstrate how far removed from the membership are the management of the CC.

It is very clear some posters on this thread are niaive when it comes to the making of TV programmes! The BBC commissioned it and thus control EVERYTHING IN IT! The CC probably had little say in the edit or contestants. My only criticism of the contestants is some of the woeful driving/towing skills and hope the CC gave them all a free towing course! As I have posted previously the contestants are largely blameless and the 'winner' clearly a decent couple.

Typical off the cuff answer, with no knowledge of the commissions procedure of the BBC , or maybe a BBC hating ,Daily Mail reader
An idea of this kind would have to be pitched to the BBC, by an outside interest. probably the Caravan club
The BBC then would decide on the idea ,probably after a meeting with the outside party. probably the caravan club. if the BBC thinks the idea has merit, and fit with their mix of programmes. The BBC will either at that point agree , or tell the outside interested party, probably the caravan club, to develop the idea further ,and come back, and pitch they idea again
If the outside interested parties idea , probably the Caravan club, idea is taken up by the BBC The outside interested parties idea , probably the Caravan club would then go away, and as in this case, produce a programme, using an out side production company
The BBC would then view the programme ,and would engage in discussion with the outside party and producers, if they though changes etc, may be needed .
So NO the BBC is not to blame

As usual there is deafening silence from Grimstead on this subject. It would help our understanding if the chairman or his deputies could explain the rationale behind those two TV programmes.

The information you crave was actually available in an interview with Nick Lomas 8 months ago - see You Tube video:

Write your comments here...We've all seen that one ages ago. --
What we would like, would be, in light of the two TV programmes, that the chairman or his deputies could explain the rationale behind their particular choice of tasks and exactly how those particular tasks determined who was the best caravaner in the UK.

Blimey - it's like prodding a sponge!
"We've all seen that one ages ago." - really? You've checked with all 1M members? That's quite a feat!! (PS it's only been viewed 1,211 times )
"What we would like, would be....." - is your "we" also on behalf of all 1M members, or just a royal "we"?
I for one can't recall being consulted on what I would like
Cheers

Apparently there has been another BBC programme in similar vein featuring people who stay in Bed and Breakfast establishments. Did anyone see it?

Write your comments here...There was a programme that subject on TV yesterday. Noticed it as I flicked through the channels to get to the news.
Not really riveting TV. Might suit those who loved Caravanner of the Year though.
