I'm even going to take extra chairs ,so people get a front row seat
Thanks for the info HD, I've given the BBC & you've been framed the heads up. With a suggestion of a title-'Dog of the year with full HD'

I have just written a letter of complaint to the Caravan Club concerning this total embarrisment of a television programme. The CC should be ashamed of itself, along with its Chairman for the protrayal of caravanning, along with the smutty and cheap inuendo. The Chairman should resign. I for one thing will not be renewing my membership.

Some of the comments on here have given me as much of a chuckle as the programme itself, talk about over reacting.
Listen folks, the programme aired at 8pm last Wednesday. What was on the same time on BBC1? Exactly. Do you really think those that have no interest in caravaning sat and watched this instead?
It's ok, you can go to work, you can go out and cut your grass, you can go to the supermarket, you can face your friends all without having to wear a disguise.
As I said in a previous post, please carry out your threats of not renewing your membership, and boycotting CC sites, because then there will be more room for the rest of us. Also those calling for the CC chairman to resign should also be ashamed of themselves,
how very childish. Lighten up people, life's too short.0 -

"Dear Sir
Thank you for your email dated 21st April addressed to the Director General, the contents of which have been noted by Mr Lomas. We appreciate you taking time to contact The Club and we have taken on board the points that you raise.
Reviews of the Caravanner of The Year programme in the national media have been, in the very large majority, positive. The amount of coverage that we have received equates to over 30 million of the general public having had the opportunity to see, hear or
read about The Caravan Club – this is unprecedented in The Club’s history. BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show presenter, Chris Evans, talked positively about the programme, two days in a row. The day after the programme he said ‘what a show… it was brilliant last
night… we’ve got another Bake Off on our hands’. The BBC One Show also invited participants, their vehicles and judges to be on the show where we took the opportunity to talk about the many benefits of our pastime and encouraged people to get out and explore
the great outdoors. The overwhelming sentiment on social media following the airing of the programme was positive, and we ranked fourth in Twitter trends on the night. Many of our industry colleagues in caravan and motorhome manufacturing and retail have actively engaged in
supporting this initiative. We appreciate your feedback and we are sorry you were disappointed with the programme".

Of course it doesnt make you a bad person, just as good a driver as the club chaiman.....
I damaged my van in very similar circumstances and I can assure you I did claim. So no doubt I am responsible for 0.0001p of your insurance premium. I make no apology for this. Does this make me a bad person?

Just want to say at last I have logged in after several attempts! Have been a member for 33 years and have all ways received a first class service from the CC, especially from Red Pennant last year when I went down with shingles in my left eye. They sent
out a courier from the UK as I could not drive and the service was to say the least brilliant. Anyone going overseas, do not go without Red Pennant cover.0 -

being one of them and CL's the other. As for the Club as a whole, as long as it serves my purpose I'll be a member and the TV programme as a shrug of the shoulders after I stopped laughing0 -

In this thread we are more concerned with the misguided antics of the Club Chairman who has made himself, and thereby, CC look idiotic.

Recorded Part 1 and recently settled down to watch what I thought would be a pleasurable programme but how mistaken I was.
The programme portrayed caravvaning and the Caravan Club in the worst light possible.
What on earth was the Caravan Club thinking about in subscribing to such a TV presentation and who in the Caravan Club, reviewed and edited the programmed before it was signed off for transmission.
I only watched the first 35 minutes of the first programme and this was 35 minutes too long, before stopping the recording and deleting.
i trust that the next scheduled programme is nothing like the first and that the Caravan Club has taken action to "pull the programme" off the air if it is anything like.
What a golden opportunity has been missed and thrown away by the Caravan Club when it had the opportunity to promote caravvaning and the Caravan Club and portray it in a good light nstead of making it the laughing stock of the country.

Our friend and neighbour takes expensive foreign holidays at £3000 plus per person a time and thinks that we are cheapskate taking holidays in this country with a motorhome, despite the fact that we spent a very large amount of money on said motorhome. The
Beeb prog has just reinforced her 'superior' attitude.0 -
Plenty of people have commented that the Club is ignoring this thread, despite nearly 100 pages of almost universal agreement that serious harm has been done to the Club by running the Caravanner of the Year Competition on BBC TV. There have been lots of
calls for both Chairman and CEO to resign; a pretty big fuss is being made and, surprise surprise, the Club doesn’t seem to be listening. The Caravan Club is supposed to be owned and operated for the benefit of its members so why aren’t the Club’s hierarchy
listening?Club Together is clearly regarded by Club Management as a safe place to allow Members to let off steam but nothing of any other significance. No one outside the Club reads it (nowhere has the national media taken any interest in this Members’ Revolution)
so it can be simply ignored. All the Club Management have done this time, and all they have ever done in the past, is release an anodyne statement which gives no indication at all that they will listen or learn, let alone change anything unless it suits them.
Their statement saying “we think it was OK” amounts to rejection and denial. There is no evidence at all that the Club’s management hierarchy have any intention at all of listening to the Members on this issue. The Caravan Club might be a member-controlled club on paper but in practice, these days, it is controlled entirely by its establishment and the members simply don’t have any real voice or clout at all. Even if all those who have expressed strong views on
this thread turned up at the next AGM to demand a vote of no confidence, it simply wouldn’t happen. Members cannot propose a motion at the AGM unless the Club Council, part of the Club’s establishment, has approved the motion in advance. To propose any motion to an AGM you need to get together quite a large number of other Members to support you before your motion can go forward at all. And you aren’t allowed to use Club Together to exchange personal information, so you can’t use that to
form up your rebel group. There is no facility to gather any sort of revolutionary movement together. Forcing the Club’s establishment to accept change against its wishes might not be impossible but it is a mammoth task and will requires some pretty clever
and sustained political activity. There might be other ways of forcing the Chairman or CEO out, such as open rebellion to get the attention of the press, but I wouldn’t count on it succeeding. So let steam off on here if you wish, that seems to be allowed – unless of course it ever starts to look like you are achieving anything, in which case your postings might quietly disappear. I wonder if this posting of mine will survive for long?
As it happens I doubt if much harm has been done by the Club’s participation in this TV programme, except perhaps temporarily to Chairman Grenville’s hitherto unshakeable self-confidence. Long before Jeremy Clarkson had a go at ridiculing us, the general
public had already learned to hate us for cluttering up the roads so why kid yourself that you could ever persuade them otherwise. And do we really want to recruit more people to our hobby in this over-crowded Country? Let them think we’re all eccentric
fools, I don’t mind at all.0 -

I doubt the club has the power to "pull" the programme, having let BBC record the fiasco and denigrate the chairman in particular and the club in general

Where did they select these caravaners/motorhomers from I never saw an invite to take part

Apparently it was published in both the club magazine and in CT.
Well, that lets me out. I only use the club mag for lighting the BBQ and not had that many so far this year and probably the only time it was advertised on CT was when I got "PAGE NOT FOUND"...
Dammit... I could have been there with my camper .....whizzing around the roundabout tree, bashing through the bales and towing Grenville out of the mud picking up bits of caravan as I went

Denigrate definition, to speak damagingly of; criticize in a derogatory manner; sully; defame: The BBC only showed what the CC and the Chairman organised and demonstrated in no way did they 'denigrate' as you state. Totally the CC's own

Ryanair CEO Michael oleary said in a recent interview with Steve wright on BBC2 that no publicity is bad and any publicity is good.
Was it that bad? I don't think so but it weren't that great either. Maybe it should be taken for what it is, a bit of fun and people should learn to laugh at themselves because the reality is people laughed at us before this programme.
