Alko wheel clamp lock

I have an Alko wheel clamp, the big orange one.

The barrel lock has a problem as in the key keeps going round with the centre section,so there is no way to remove the key.Luckily this happened with the lock off the van and when I came to put
it back on after a trip away

I need a replacement lock and key. However due to not having the code, You cannot purchase just the barrel lock,

The clamp came with the caravan when I purchased it a few years ago so dont know if I ever had the code

Therefore I have to purchase a complete locking kit at £156 !!

Does anyone know if there are any alternative solutions

If not I will just keep using the clamp with just the special locking bolt.I only use it when the caravan is on the drive at home,

Hello, Have you tried a few drops of 3 in1 oil down the key hole to try and lubricate the lock mechanism. key should turn easily on its own without the barrel turning. There is a serrated/knurled edge on the barrel you can put your finger on to grip and
to stop the barrel turning with the key.

If you definately need a replacement, I would look on ebay. People sometimes just sell the lock and key. Even if you have to buy a complete lock, on ebay it will be considerably less than the price you quote!

Or you can use the other end of the wrench on the serrated part of the wheel lock To stop it from turning while you use the key.

I agree look on eBay all barrel locks will fit any alko clamp so if you have to buy complete it will still be cheaper

    Hi

    Thank you for the reply's

I have tried your sugestions to no avail.I think the lock inside has failed somehow

So will now keep an eye out on ebay

It seems a bit strange that Alko insist on selling the complete locking kit, which consists of the locking bolt, the special socket to undo it, and the barrel lock all for £156

its not a big problem I can still use it without the barrel lock, just by using the securing bolt which cant be undone without the special socket. Plus just seeing the big orange chunk will be a deterrent in itself

its not declared on my insurance so no problem with that

I always found the Alko locks a PITA anyway.  Unles you have a mover (and even then) they are difficult to line up properly and if you try and force it if it's just a tiny bit out, you stand a good chance of jiggering it.

There are other wheel locks out there that are a lot cheaper and easier.
