We use the Thetfords specific cleaner for plastic bathroom fittings, as I was under the impression that the plastics used were susceptible to damage from more vigorous products. Not sure why it has gone yellow at 18 months though. We have always used the
pink flushing fluid with no problems. Perhaps an issue with the plastic quality?0 -
I use Thetford's cleaner, which I have to say this one is IMO an exceptionally good product, not something I would say about all their products:

This I keep at home and use as needed, but whilst we are away and calcium deposits take the gloss away I spray the bowl with vinegar, which we carry to spray our salads etc.
I find the “issue” is basically the flush water leaves the bowl damp and as this evaporates the water's hardness deposits out forming a dirt trapping ceramic film that itself can be quite coloured in some regions. The vinegar dissolves this away down to the plastic's natural gloss surface. Been doing it for many years and with the present van 9 years; whilst the loo is not looking as new it looks a great deal better than if left untreated for a season.0 -
I too use white vinegar. Pour into the bowl, use plasic bottles filled with water to bulk out and fill near to the top. We leave for 48 hours andl then release into bottom tank to releasevthe calcium in there. Add some more vinegar to bottom tank and afterv24
hoursvtop up with some water and eventually rinse out. We use the 'van 17 weeks of the year and it does make a difference0 -
Hi EasyT, is white vinegar ok if it comes into contact with the rubber seals of the cassette? I mentioned to the other half just this afternoon that I was looking for a toilet bowl cleaner or wipes. I have 2 gallons of white vinegar sat in the garage that
we use for cleaning but didn't like to use it on the caravan loo just in case it reacted with the plastic or rubber.0 -
Ian, I seem to remember reading that you were a non user of your caravan toilet so why do you need to spray it?

Write your comments here...Thank's EasyT, I'll start using it as I am replacing the toilet flush pump this weekend and will have a good clean and service of the loo bowl and cassette while I'm at it. Thanks again.
Cheers!

Ecover toilet cleaner is really good for plastic bowls and seals (used a lot on boats)- and also helps shift limescale deposits. It also smells nice and has no (potentially staining) colours added, which is an issue with some normal domestic cleaners.

Thermo-molded plastics are susceptible to damage (yellowing) by many chemical, even would you believe it Tooth paste!!
