We are buying a campervan which only has two gas rings for cooking meals. A friend suggested that we buy a halogen oven which would allow us to roast meat etc. Does anyone have experience of cooking in one of these ovens and would they recommend the one
they have, please?

Oldgoat, we are about to embark on a trip across France to Germany in a hired campervan and our hirer recommended we buy a halogen oven. So we got one and have tried it at home a few times and, according to my chef (who doubles as the wife) it is a brilliant
machine which cooks everything beautifully. It's a bit strange to begin with as it appears to be nothing more than a light bulb in a pot, but rest assured they are good. My own experiance is limited to eating the end product, no complaints there either. Ours
is a Homegear Multifunctional which we obtained off line with Amazon. Good luck.

    Hi Oldgoat,

I am now the owner of 2 Halogen ovens, one for home and one lives in the Caravan. They are superb, we never need use the onboard oven as the Halogen takes care of absolutly all our cooking needs from a full english breakfast to a full Sunday roast with potatoes and veg as well. We use in the awning so cooking smells in the Caravan are a thing of the past. Also, a bottle of gas can last us up to 2 years now.

Get one with an attached lid not a seperate one. Our is by Andrew James, we got it off ebay.

If was to lose my Halogen i would be on ebay with a minute to get another.

They are very good but heavy. If you want something lighter look at Remoska

We use a halogen oven at home and generally like it.  Is seems especially good at doing baked potatoes.  We don't take it away with us in the van though, on the basis that we already have enough stuff in the van - including the Cadac.
