Wind Sock!!

Hello, I know this is a touchy subject but I would like a bit of help and advice.

I want to buy a wind sock and pole for when I go to cornwall in August, I have seen other posts about this and I know alot of people don't like them for various reasons, mainly the danger of them falling and damaging other caravans in the area.

I would be taking it down when it gets too windy and at night so it does not keep others awake.

The only reason I want to get one is so that from a distance it is easier for my son to find his way back to our caravan.

I would like to do it properly, so can anyone recommend a certain brand of pole that is more reliable than cheap alternatives? Also what is the best way to fit it so that it reduces the risk of damaging any caravans.

I don't want to start a heated debate about this so would appreciate it if any comments are helpfull comments.

Happy

We have used a pole with a flag on for just the same reason as you,and I think its just scare mongering by a tiny few when it comes to damage,we just used an awning peg in ground and place which is basicaly a 3 or 4 mtr colapsible fishing pole on, then tie
to jockey wheel,it can be then just collapsed at night,it allso works as a great deterant at keeping Gulls awayWink

Have a look at "lives a beeeze" website. Loads of poles and windsocs you can get a couple of different poles from them, a normal one and a beefed up version for bigger windsocs or flags. I personally have a 5 metres pole and I really upset some of them on
here because I stick solar powered flashing lights up the pole too! Strap to jockey wheel or if on grass you can get a stake from them which you can put into the ground and slide your pole over.

Ours too is from lifes a breeze...good sturdy 5 meter too. Never had a problem with it staked in the ground, though we do lower it when windy and of a night  ( easy enough to do) and we don't always have it to full height. Loads of choice of flags, windsocks
too...check out their website. They have a good selection at shows usually too.

    Childish

Hi Admiral. (Do we have to salute?) Not sure if you meant windsocks are childish or if you meant people who complain about everything a are childish.

Just Windsocks, people have the right to complain if relevant

Admiral, no need to salute, just a touch of your forelock will suffice
