It shouldn't reduce overall pitch numbers.  Grass pitches tend to be more spaced out to allow the pegs to be moved.  There is no way that one pitch in three should be lost through conversion to HS. One in five I'd query, one in ten I'd believe but not one in three

The only way that could happen is if the club relies on the poor uptake of grass to minimise space for grass pitches.  Which is both possible and believable

According to the handbook Whitewater Park had 109 pitches with 14 being hardstanding. The magazine shows it now has 100 all hardstanding so we have lost 9 pitches in creating 86 hardstandings from grass ones. Not the loss ratio suggested but still 9 too
    many.

I have not  seen anywhere that grass pitches are bigger to enable pegs to be moved ,only that if  grass pitches are damaged the pegs can be moved ,but it will probably mean some pitches missing

I have seen a hole row of pegs moved across leaving more space at one end to presumably even out wear on several occasions.

I have not been since the refurbishment but the magazine said all hardstanding. If it is not then losing nine to get fifty converted would suggest you lose about one in five.

    From a google search

    White Water Park (Stockton-on-Tees)

White Water Park Caravan Club Site is
now fully open, book your break now to see all the great changes we've made! Visitors will see some major improvements including complete refurbishment of the toilet block. A new playground has been installed along with a caravan wash area. 60 grass pitches
have also been converted to 52 hardstanding pitches. The refurbished toilet block also incorporates an enclosed dishwashing area and baby and toddler facilities.White Water Park New Playground

The site's entrance has had a makeover with improved visibility and safety around the reception area. The entry lane has also been widened to make it easier for larger outfits to approach and the motorhome waste point has been upgraded to make it safer and
more convenient for everyone to use.

Thanks to member feedback, a caravan wash area has been installed at the site which will complement the storage compound. Additional CCTV will also improve safety and security. The play area has now been installed and has been fully safety checked, ready
for you to unleash your little ones.

I wonder if anyone staying there will be able to use the caravan wash area or is it only for those using the storage compound ?

Why not wash it on the new pitches if they have drains?? You could always claim misinterpretation of the roolz Tongue Out

Did they let the kids check out the play area for the safety testing, best way to do it let the users work things out. Tongue Out

I did look at the magazine app and could not see any grass pitches but it was not conclusive.

I'm sitting here bemused as to how a thread entitled "December Magazine" could so quickly have deteriorated into a discussion about hard standings and how many pitches are lost in conversion

    Absolutely right !!

What did others think of Bob Black's (former Chairman) comments about the Caravanner of the Year competition in the December magazine?

I thought he was absotutely spot on. The  current Chairman certainly looked a fool on the programme

I agree. Bob Black's comments were exactly right and coming from a former Chairman should carry some weight. The lady from the establishment who tried to present the official line was way off the mark.

At the end of the day we have all made fools of ourselves. We were just lucky we were not on television, or at least I have been.

I have to agree with wildwood we have all made fools of ourselves at some point in our lives.  Having said that I didn’t see the program

What I did find interesting in the article about the AGM was the comment ‘In the past 6 months, 45% of new members joining the club owned a motorhome or campervan’.  This made me wonder if maybe people are wanting to tour more rather than spending their time away in only I or 2 places.   Being able to tour more was our main reason for moving from caravan to van conversion. I wonder if others have moved from one to the other & what their reasons were. Maybe also from motorhome to caravan

Statistically motorhome sales are rising faster than caravan sales. I have not seen any investigation as to the reasons but my feeling is the driving licence requirements might be a contributing factor.

On having a quick scan through the December Mag, I noticed on page 72, that somebody called the earl of leicester was re-elected president for another year.  As I've never heard of him, just a couple of questions ---

Does anybody know if he is a caravanner or motorhomer ?. Also what personal caravanning expertise does he bring to the CC organisation ?.

    Cheers,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,K

More interestingly, for members who enjoy visiting these houses, would Caravan Club members get free entry to Holkham Hall Smile Perhaps the 'boss' would tell us.
