Facebook - why?

Just had a look on the office for national statistics web site. I hope we can all agree they are reputable. They have 63% of the population using social media in 2016. The previous 89% was of Internet users.
Thanks for that A.
As I said earlier, I am happy to wait until the club produces its source and until then I remain sat on the proverbial fence.
Or are you confirming the source of the 89% is the ONS?

Why should the club produce a source, they're not writing a thesis, it's not important, statistics are a moveable feast, they are snapshots which change.
Because a member has politely asked them? Would be good enough for most clubs. There are no commercial sensitivity issues
Not important? Do you just accept stats without knowing where they came from?
By the way, can you not see that I am genuinly interested in the accurate figures? I am not point scoring. I could not care less if the CC use facebook or not but you must by now be aware of that if you have read the previous posts.

You should not really have to ask. The club should have stated the source in the post. Using statistics without quoting the source is bad form. When they are used in newspapers, there is usually a reference to where they came from.

Cant understand the need to put banal crap for all to see, including times when your house is empty. A thiefs paradise I think.Thank god im old fashioned.
I wonder how many people have been burgled just because they posted something on facebook??

I know someone who was burgled by putting a post saying he had a great evening.

I think some miss the point about Facebook, I post mainly to family, friends etc like a lot do, you either like and use it or you don't. The millions of people who use it are not all posting banal crap. some of us don't, we are careful what we say and were
we post. Some days there is more banal crap posted on here then on face book. Right that's my opinion posted, (I am off to put my cheese on toast under the grill LOL, (joke))0 -

Hmmm.. By the sound of it that someone didn't understand how to change the privacy settings on Facebook. Many people I know adjust the settings so that only your friends and family can see what you post, things are therefore not public to all and sundry.

I myself am a non-user of either sites but let us suppose that the Facebook & Twitter figures quoted by Helen Aaron are inaccurate and that only 1% use these Social Media sites, that would still give figures of 220,000 for Facebook and 3,200,000 for Twitter.
When you consider the purpose for which the CC intends to use these sites, that’s not insubstantial numbers (IMO).0 -
I hope Facebook owned WhatsApp users are fully aware of what is going to happen on September 25.
WhatsApp’s plans to "share user information"—including phone numbers, contact lists, and usage data—with parent company Facebook on that date. You didn't know anything about it? You really have to watch Facebook like a hawk.
Here is a way to opt out before it's too late.

Anyone who has Whats App should go to the link and read it then opt out.

Perhaps some might be surprised to hear I cannot agree with that
People should become much better informed about social media then they can decide for themselves if they want to use it or not.
I firmly believe in freedom of choice but any choice should be informed choice

Facebook like many other sites harvests your data, collates the information from websites that you visit and sells on the data of your viewing habits to third parties.
I am still struggling to understand what Facebook can offer a user that cannot be done via email, Skype or other means where your data is not harvested for all the world to read.
I admit to having a Facebook account that was set up many years ago, but I hardly ever visit it and when I did shortly after starting this thread I was horrified to find adverts all linked to my recent browsing on websites not related to Facebook.
I did a cull on all these sites and also culled the friends list down to only several names. BTW all the friends I had were people that I had met previously in real life and those that I culled were ones that basically I had not communicated with for some
time. The account has been changed to a private one that cannot be viewed by outsiders as I hardly ever use it. Still wondering why a business sees it as essential to have a Facebook presence becasue if you post anything negative even if it is true and backed
up with evidence, the post is removed?0 -
One does not have to be "on" Facebook to be tracked. It is happening all the time, even if you are not using a device connected to the Internet. Facebook just lets you see a very small part of what is being recorded about you.
People who have never used a computer of any kind, or had an account opened on any on-line web site are still tracked.

No denying the above however you can delete the cookies which stops websites tracking you but you cannot do thsi with Facebook and you are hooked for as long as you belong to Achebook!
