Sounds interesting. And the general conclusion was? (If it was anything like my degree the answer will be - "it depends" but we live in hope.
No conclusion as such it was a module to study at level 6 Did write 4000 word assignment on the module though

I have both FB and Twitter accounts, but have never used either. I registered in the early days of each simply to prevent anyone else using my preferred username. I guess I count towards the 89%

What they do is use sampling then extrapolate out so accuracy depends upon the methodology used. The sample size is important and it's possible to give a confidence factor.
Writing this has just reminded me how boring this part of the course was

Hi everyone,
We have set up this month’s Ask the Expert to focus on social media, as we can see that a number of you hold some concerns about The Caravan Club its presence on social media. This will give you the opportunity to have your questions answered live by our
Social Media Manager, so if you have any questions, please direct them to
this thread and we will be answering questions live on 12 Sept.I would like to reassure you all - as this still seems to be a concern in other threads - that The Club’s presence on other forms of social media is not to replace Club Together; we actually regard Club Together as a social media platform (myself being part
of the social media team!). We’re simply trying to give members more choice in how they engage with The Club.I hope this has answered some of your questions

It would be completely stupid for the Club to ignore the likes of Facebook and similar social media. Internet use has changed beyong all recoginition over the last 10 years. Whether we like it or not most organisations have to be engaged with it to reach
the widest number of people. It matters not whether the figure is 89% or 69% what the Club can't ignore is that by any measure there are a vast number of people who treat Social Media as part of their everyday life. If the Club wants to encourage the next
generation of members they have to be involved.David

Thank god I am one if the 11%. Cant think of a sadder persuit than be on social media. Get a life.
I pressed like by mistake, agree nothing sadder than being on social media or any forum for hours everyday, forums are worse beacuse you are talking to people you don't know, who only share one or a few interests as you and are unlikely to meet,

l think people enjoy social contact by various means. Years ago, on retirement, my father went back to the amateur radio of his youth and enjoyed making evening contacts all over the place. He met up with a few fellow ham radio followers, some became friends,
much like a few on here have done. You can get as much or as little from social media as you like, I think there are benefits as well as pitfalls.0 -

David
Of course it matters, you have to post accurate figures and be prepared to reference the source or not at all.
For the exactly same reason I have just withdrawn a recent post because I had not checked the source properly and was not 100% certain of the facts.
The alternative is that everyone just posts made up nonsense.

It matters not one jot. I think what Helen was trying to do was to illustrate the popularaity of Social Media. I have no reason to doubt the figures that she quotes as they seem perfectly inline with what I would have expected. Whichever way you cut it Social
Media is used by a very large slice of the population, of all ages, and often as a main form of online communication. The Club would ignore that at its peril in my view. There are those that prefer not to use Social Media or perhaps don't see the point but
the fact remains that a very large proportion of the population do use it and the Club must respond to that.David

You are arguing a different point David.
I personally think Facebook is a valuable marketing tool but the data harvesting means it's not for me. I have just been studying it at level 6!
I do not care if others use it or not.
I do not care if the CC uses Facebook or not.
I do care if they differerentiate and disadvantage non Facebook members
I do care if statistics / facts are used that are ubsubstantiated.
Do you think I enjoyed retracting my post over on Overseas due to me not checking facts? I didn't enjoy it one bit but it's more important to have accuracy than an ego. I expect the same dilligence from the club.
I hope this explains my position better.

I have no wish to become involved with Facebook. Like Fysherman I am concerned on a number of fronts and hope that the club does not disadvantage those of us that have no wish to take part. We have a web-site a forum a magazine and now this. Will all have
to be contacted or updated everytime the management want to inform us of something. I think it's all a bit over the top. Just my thoughts.0 -
You only need to see how TV has dumbed down with programmes directed at a certain non-discerning audience to explain the rise of use of Facebook by certain people.
Companies use it for purely selfish reasons as updating information on their main website is time consuming and expensive. Posting info on F/B is cheap.

Whether you use facebook or not, data is still be harvested from all the web pages and forums you use. Online users are revealing more about themselves than they think. Applications are out there to gather data and analyse it for all sorts of purposes. If
you were really worried about it you wouldn't use the internet at all.peedee

Just had a look on the office for national statistics web site. I hope we can all agree they are reputable. They have 63% of the population using social media in 2016. The previous 89% was of Internet users.
As for disadvantaging some members
1) a lot of the content is not aimed at members it is to attract in new members
2) all channels do that I don't read news papers so anything in there would be no good for me. Many just throw themagazine away so that's no good. CT is only visited by a small minority.
And even once a competition has been found some cant read that's devisive some don't know the answer that's devisive. Life is like that.
