Club Magazine Walks
Have just seen the August edition of the CC Magazine. In the regular walking section is a walk along Wenlock Edge. It is promoting the Much Wenlock site as the nearest club site for the walk. Very strange that this should appear at the same time as notice
of the site closing because of non-renewal of the lease!! Another example of the Club's left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing!!

When i read the thread title, Club magazine walks, i thought someone had come up with the reason why my August edition of the magazine never arrived ? And no i havent accidentely ticked the online only box (if there is one ?).
Already posted that the loss of Much Wenlock site is a great shame.

Probably prepared and published before the final decision was made. Its just unfortunate that the announcement was made within days of the magazine being distributed.

I writefor magaznes.Have a deadline of 7 weeksbefore publication for submissions and feature rticles are written 12 months in advance.ie If I write about the Olive htches on say Tal y Llyn for appearance in April 2016 Mag, I will have written the article

i think we were chatting on here last year about the site closing and it was mentioned in reviews. Obviously the CC can't talk about things too much in advance but it's surprising this article went through, maybe the local CLs could have had a mention?

We learned of the sites at MW and BD under threat last year, and closure of both was debated on here at length, months ago. Spectacular own goal by the Club on this one!

I would have thought that any magazine / newspaper, would keep a article in hand, to substitute in the event of a scheduled story being insensitive. Certainly promoting a site that has just been closed, could be considered as such. I am afraid it just speaks of the lack of awareness. Perhaps they could have substituted the latest results on the reliability survey.

Very much doubt that David. We were told last year that the site was due to close at the end of it's 2016 season.

But were you told that by an official Club source by which I don't mean the site warden? The problem here is that whilst any negotiations were on going it is still a Club site. The article concerned was probably commissioned months ago, or longer. Surely the main point of the article was about the walk which could still be enjoyed whether you stayed at the site or not? The site won't be there next year but the walk will be.

The nearest car park, not mentioned in the walk (under point 4) is a small non facility NT one further along the road, heading away S/W from Much Wenlock going past the site. The walks from this point are varied and walking towards Ippikins Rock there are good views of the Long Mynd and the Wrekin. There is a farm campsite near the N/W side so a good spot to stay to enjoy the area.
