Do members get a yellow/red card for booking pitches and the cancelling at last minut?

The pitches seem to get booked up very fast...

They get emails rapping them across the knuckles if they cancel within 72 hrs of the start of the booking.

As TW said the offender will get a warning e-mail. If they continue to "abuse" the system they will be banned after 3 such warnings, I believe.

Hi McHugh and hi to all

Thanks so much for getting in touch. Please see
    here
for the official Caravan Club policies regarding both late cancellations and early departures. It is our intention to keep touring flexible & with the relatively new procedure of monitoring who is cancelling late (and why) we have vastly reduced the
amount of late cancellations, freeing up thousands of pitches for Member's (and non member's) to book.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Helen

Banned for two weeks last summer left first site early after being washed out, weather was terrible so stopped in services to inform second and third site I was cancelling.  The site wardens were excellent about it, but received an email/posted letter from CC I was banned from booking for two weeks.  Took me longer to dry out in my flat. But rules r rules.  Happy caravanning.

The upper case text has been amended as this is considered shouting and is against our T&Cs.

jockii, did you phone the Club to explain the mitigating circumstances, or just SHOUT at them?

Rules may be rules but with substantiated and unavoidable mitigating circumstances I'd reckon discretion would be applied! You'd have to discuss this mind in a rational and calm way I reckon and not just shout at them!

Were the bookings very close together, time wise? Otherwise you should have been OK because you gave 72 hours notice.

Jockii is a new poster on CT and may not realise that using capitals is considered shouting, especially as not everyone reads the section on how to post. It is quite a common mistake. Hope this helps jockii, if you are wondering what everyone is on about.Happy

I am hoping for a cancellation when we next go away. Because of not being able to do our normal thing and go abroad in April/May/June I have decided to book a short tour over on the west coast to places I had in mind to visit when we had the time.
I have managed to get in at Blackpool, Southport, Chester and then Buxton for a total of 13 consecutive nights but then have encountered the weekend difficulties at the end of April. I cannot get a Saturday night! but can get all those after it. If not then
we shall probably just go straight home on the Saturday and not continue the nights away into the next weekend. Pity really but there you go. Fingers crossed the wardens may be able to help us out; they did once before at Stonehaven when we came across the
same problem half way through a 7 week tour. If it wasn't for people cancelling then the likes of us who like to tour just wouldn't be able to do it in the UK unless you booked in December and were happy to plan months in advance. Perhaps this is partly why
we enjoy touring abroad so much. Regards, Roy

Write your comments here...ring the site concerned, we have in all the years only that I remember at the most 3 times that a request for a period of longer than the W/end has not been positive

We always ring and check. Ferry Meadows was showing fully booked on system on a night we needed, rang to check, got our booking sorted no problem thanks to helpful Wardens.

I was planning to ring the Wardens when the site opens in March and see how likely it may be on their past experiences, then again nearer the 72 hour cancelation time with fingers crossed someone has cancelled. Regards, Roy

Are some pitches held back from the online booking system?

The reason I ask is that it is annoying that when booking opens for peak period like Easter  you find that the main sites are fully booked on the sat / sun nights thereby stopping others from booking a four or five night stay !

I have no idea how allocation of pitches works to be honest nicechor, we don't use many Club Sites, but as we seldom book ahead more than a couple of days, we prefer to ring sites direct if booking system shows full. Suspect that things are quite fluid,
with cancellations coming in most days. Perhaps we are just lucky. You can't beat old fashioned communication sometimes though.

Rather than holding pitches back, some pitches are taken out of the booking system due to maintenance, or whatever. I know of one site when the few grass pitches are not on the system at all as they flood very easily, These pitches may be given out if you
ring if they are ready earlier than planned.

As for the weekenders stopping longer stayers, I see it as the longer stayers stopping the weekendersWink

You can't please veryone so that;s why its first come first served. If you want a pitch book early

In answer to the original poster's question (and apologies for getting back on topic).......in my view the answer is Yes - some people do abuse the booking system. They book 'just in case' and then cancel just outside the 72 hour cut off period.

This is why pitches often become available at the last minute - too late for some to take up.

The CC deny that this happens, but I (and others) have been asking for years now for the numbers of cancellations made in the days leading up to the 72 hour cut off.

Despite the fact that this information must be available, the CC have consistently ignored this request for information.

    Draw your own conclusions.......

Ian while I agree members do make speculative bookings, it is the only way to get a booking sometimes, the cancellations seem to be gobbled up fairly quickly so the Club doesn't actually lose anything. It is just members like the one complaining in the March magazine letters pages that suffer and me who wanted a four day booking over a weekend in the northwest. It just couldn't be done 3 weeks in advance other than at the Wirral Country Park which I didn't want so I have booked a commercial site for my four days.

Did you see >this thread< I'll try and update it idc.

I booked last week for Chatsworth only to have to cancel because our 2 year old grandson was taken into hospital the day before we were due, we as well as being very concerned about our little one we also looked after his sister whilst their parents were
    a the hospital all night.

I cancelled the short break and as someone said rules being rules got a warning email immediately.

I emailed the club to explain the circumstances and say it is bad enough having the worry of the situation without also getting a automated threatening letter as well, some will no doubt say tough but I don't think the cc club operate as a club

anymore, take a deposit if you want to try and stop people booking speculatively and then cancelling, but have a bit of thought and respect for your members who could do without threats at times like this.

Haven't recieved a reply to my email either.

cm - you have my sympathy and I hope your grandson makes a full recovery. In the big scheme of things that email is of no importance.

As for club acting as a club, well unfortunately you're up against the brigade that insist the club should get up with the times and become more commercialised (ie whack up prices in July & August and give out more special deals off peak)! The club offers
    a reasonable alternative (IMHO). Happy

Thanks m for your kind thoughts but you will not believe this, the little tinker only fell off a chair yesterday and has now fractured his wrist, 2nd visit to A&E pot on and as we are booked in at Knarsborough on Friday? I feel a second yellow might be coming.

If you're quick with an on-line cancellation for Friday you should not get the dreaded message.
