edited November 2016 in Centre News & Rallies #1

We got the latest Escorted European tours magazine and decided that the tours were far too expensive for us so we looked at the rallies for centres and saw one that we liked.

However on phoning we were told that only one dog is allowed on a pitch which was a big disappointment to us.  Surely we are not the only ones that take pets with us onto the continent.

I appreciate that the centres try and cater for the majority, but to put our pets into the kennels would cost as much or even more than the trip.

Actually last year we wanted to do a first time trip to the continent with the CC and again we were told that no dogs were allowed.

It now seems that once again we will be making our on way across as it seems centres and the CC do not take into consideration that some people woudl like to take their pets with them.

BTW the thread is mainly about rallies and the restrictions so it would be appreciated if it could be left under this heading instead of being dumped into the mile long dog thread where it will be lost.

I might well be a restriction imposed by the site rather than the rally organisers.

We dont our dogs abroad and have had the situation where there accomadation has cost less than ours at least their wine bill was less though.

Have you tried the other club?  I sometimes have to look carefully with ACSI to make sure both my dogs are allowed on sites I want to visit.  One year I left one dog with my daughter that made life a bit easier.   You certainly don't see campers with multiple pooches as you do on UK sites.

You are correct about a restriction imposed by the site however surely the centre or the CC could also choose sites that allow more than one dog?

We have used ACSI sites previously and although they may state 2 dogs maximum, we have never had a problem  when booking.

The club may suggest sites and the centre will sanction a rally but most of the organisation falls on the shoulders on amatuer organisers. To be honest if I found an otherwise excellent venue I don't think a restriction on the number of dogs allowed would
necessarily rule a site out.  All I can suggest is that you talk to the organisers and as the rally is basically a block booking they might be able to get the site to agree that the total number of dogs allowed equals the number of vans booked i.e. 20 vans
20 dogs and as most people won't have them that might work.

I have organised and run overseas rallies for my local centre, We have never restricted dogs, or cats but the chosen sites have. It often depends on the time of the year, they are usually more welcome out of season.

We have had our dog with us on foreign rallies for the last two years with no problem and were not charged for him even though the sites did charge for dogs.

Got a rally in Italy booked for 2017 and again no problem with the dog.
