LOL - Thank you flatcoat, you have introduced me to a new phrase - very descriptive!
I assume this is the same as giving it a blast now and again, if so I would concur!
....though being a reasonably progressive driver in a rural location, the disco does find itself in kickdown reasonably regularly (tractors, combines, lorries, sunday drivers)!

Hi all,
I stated that I have used 2 st oil for many years on different cars, towing caravans all over Europe. two of these cars ( from new ) suffered diesel slap when cold and even when under pressure, by adding my 2st oil at £1 per tank full of fuel whats it costing
me to be happy in the knowledge that my car runs smoother, cleaner and quieter, fact. BTW my company is not named Car Lube !! For those that call this " snake oil " and have not tried, then don't. But as with most things don't knock it 'til; you've tried it.Happy caravanning.

I always used 2 stroke oil in my Suzuki GT750 motorcycle because it has a 2 stroke engine. My diesel engined car only requires and gets diesel fuel, from a Supermarket where it's cheaper,I don't believe in fairies or Father Christmas either

I use brick dust in mine, sometimes with a little bit of soft sand!
I have been using it for 40 years driving all over the world, I get 25% improvement on mpg, 30% more torque and 15% more smoothness!
I know it works - don't knock it unless you have tried it!
It's based on how it supplies inverse reactive current for use in unilateral phase detractors, but is also capable of automatically synchronizing cardinal grammeters in the turbo encabulator.
Instead of power being generated by the relative motion of conductors and fluxes, it is produced by the modial interaction of magneto-reluctance and capacitive diractance.
The base plate of pre-famulated amulite surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing is mounted in such a way that the two spurving bearings are in a direct line with the panametric fan. The latter consisted simply of six hydrocoptic marzlevanes, so fitted to the ambifacient lunar waneshaft that side fumbling is effectively prevented.
The main winding is of the normal lotus-o-delta type placed in panendermic semi-boloid slots of the stator, every seventh conductor being connected by a non-reversible tremie pipe to the differential girdle spring on the "up" end of the grammeters.
The turbo-encabulator is also being successfully used in the operation of novertrunnions. Moreover, whenever a forescent skor motion is required, it may also be employed in conjunction with a drawn reciprocation dingle arm, to reduce sinusoidal repleneration.
Proof if ever you needed it!

Can you please quiet about the brick dust Jasper. If everyone starts using it the price will go up and the government will put an extra tax on it.

Sorry Tony....mums the word!

Each to their own but since treating my 3.0 Hilux Invincible to a TerraClean treatment some 3 years ago, I've only ever used Shell V-Plus Nitro diesel.
With 120K on the clock, the MOT in September 'Fast-Passed' on its emissions at 0.00. Last time it had its oil changed the technician said the oil looked virtually new and still had its treacle colour.
I'd rather pay more at the pump that fork out a fortune come servicing & MOT's
I tried once using a non-premium fuel and very nearly visited my garage to have the tank drained. By comparisson it was awful. So sluggish to drive and down nearly 3mpg on economy.
Other folks' experience may differ, but for me, its worth it
Wouldn't use 'supermarket' fuel if it was free !

You do know the only difference between a FULL tank of V- Nitro Carlos Fandango and Supermarket fuel, is less than a teaspoon of additive and a Fiver!
"Brands" best friend!
Each to their own - if you feel it works for you, more power to you!

Pretty sure we've talked before Jasper and I seem to recall you are somewhat involved with fuel ...... kinda makes you wonder why the supermarkets don't add it if its only a teaspoon and undercut the main players

Hi all,
I didn't state what I did in my first post to have the pixx taken out of me. Doubters keep on doubting but don't take the pixx.
Sit in front of me at the traffic lights pumping out black smoke, fail your emissions test, fall of the edge of the earth !! I've also fitted ( from new ) a PowerBox to my Sorento and a Steinbauer unit to my Hilux Invincible (@ £700-00 ) was that a waste
of money? IMO no I'd fit another to my next car. Motor manufacturers have moved on so much recently to produce ever cleaner vehicles, Supermarkets sell fuel for maximum profit and being in business for twenty years has taught me that it isn't always what you
sell it for that gives the greatest profit.0 -
Toyota Hilux, the vehicle Top Gear couldn't kill. . . .But Supermarket fuel can. Psssst, don't tell Toyota

Indoors, My multiple Toyota Landcruisers all went up to 90,000 miles before being traded in for a new one. So 360,000 miles in total. Not one failure in all that time. My current Mercedes ML has now reached 70,000 miles again with no engine related faults. The common denometer? All of them were refilled each time with the cheapest fuel I could find. Almost always supermarket fuel. No black smoke ever, no rough running no unreliability whatsoever! No I'm not taking the P*** as you say it, just a believer in this fact, - If these cars can be seen in all the trouble spots and most remote places in the world, I doubt that they will be phased by any lack of additives in UK supermarket fuel. Indeed I come from the camp that believes that pretty well all of the fuel comes from a small number of refineries here, and is the same fuel whether its Tesco Sainsbury, Waitrose , Esso or any of the others.

Write your comments here...You lucky man A red "Kettle" was the first bike that ever scared the poo out of me. At 17 I didn't know bikes could accelerate that fast. Still riding though at 57, currently have a Triumph sprint ST1050.

The best addative is secondhand chip oil, lovely aroma. ;-)

Just one point, "Black Smoke" is a result of over fuelling or insufficent air. normally because of componet wear/malfunction or a fault in the induction system. Cheap Diesel or Carlos Fandango Diesel will not cause Black smoke,

Indeed. It has now been proven that ChemicalJasper is the screen name of Stanley Unwin.
The TSO enthusiast said "Don't knock it till you've tried it"
I've tried it - no difference. I'm knocking it.

Like many more of you, we have used the cheapest diesel we could get all over Europe and never had a problem with under power or anything else with our shogun. Many years ago I drove trucks and the diesel was not as good as today, the Spanish diesel was
very dirty and I always had some new diesel filters with me, and the derv in Italy would freeze every time it smelt the Alps, like the old saying, you don't no your born0 -
If premium diesel really made a significant difference to MPG you would`nt have to ask the question, it would be common knowledge. I suspect the oil companies would shout their claims from the rooftops, the financial press would regularily tout it as a
money saving opportunity none of which I have seen. It may well keep the engine cleaner but unless you are doing a very high mileage I can`t see much benefit.Write your comments here...On the other hand there are people like me who only use Shell V Power Nitro because it saves me a great deal of money in improved mpg.

... and on the other hand there are people like me who use any fuel station that's nearby, and sees no difference in economy whether the likes of BP standard, super dooper or Tesco, but big difference in savings when its a Supermarket.

I'm still experimenting, but using Tesco's Momentum in my Smart gave me aroound 48mpg and so far, 'normal' petrol is only giving me 42mpg ....

Ah, my unscientific experimentation was done using diesel so not 'qualified' to pass judgement on petrol

my Merc will do anything from low 20s to high 20s around town using the same supermarket fuel

Until taking early retirement in 2012, I was the engineering training manager for Go-Ahead London. I was also part of the R&D/Technical support team. At the time we were running just under 2000 buses on a daily basis. dependant on size, a bus will return between 6 and 14 MPG. Fuel cost were one of our major overheads with an annual bill in excess of £30M at the time. As a company everything possible was done to reduce this cost including various fuel type testing, Fuel with a high bio content actually caused a few issues with stuff growing in the fuel tanks. savings were made using telematics to educate the drivers, auto engine shut down if left idling too long, fitting LED lighting to reduce engine loads, improving engine cooling and so on. the type of fuel made no difference. this was based on data we had to generate for fuel useage for HMRC to claim the fuel rebate.
As far as I know, the company still buy the cheapest fuel they can and put it in Vehicles that cost between £90K each and £325K eack for a state of the art Hybrid without any engine issues (some of these engines are running for 18 hours a day)
As far as I see it all these claims are made as a result of Lab condition test and not real world driving. so are misleading IMO.
Interesting thread though
Ian.

That comment ain't worth answering. Join the others, follower. This thread was started by the OP asking a serious question. What I suggested as a long term caravanner was my personal experience and findings of adding 2 stroke to diesel, I stand by this and
as stated earlier will continue doing so. Some would rather digress and take the pixx.0 -
Indoors. Normally I am quick to take issue with anyone taking the pixx as you put it. But having looked back through the posts I really dont think that anyone was doing that in amy malicious way at all. = Perhaps a little healthy cynicism but no more than that.
By our very nature caravanners do tend to use towing vehicles with strong towing capabilities but at the same time they can be a little more thirsty than the smaller cars around today.
I see that from your earlier posts that you too have been towing for quite some time, so you are fully entitled to hold the views that you do. But I am afraid that you will have to accept that some will be a little scathingly cynical of your solution. And no, they were not taking the ad blue either!

Hi tf,
Call it " healthy cynicism " they are your words, I call it as it is. The guy is asking a reasonable question, I IMO offered he could try adding 2 str to fill ups adding my views on the use of. Infact for others to add their " healthy cynicism " regarding
adding it to a 2 stroke motorcycle, who wouldn't ?Don't wish to disagree with anyone or their views,
Happy caravannig.

Politics, religion and 2 stroke oil, all will bring out strong views. Two stroke oil has been debated on all motoring forums, on Freel2.com alone it has nearly three quarters of a million views and 1300 posts with heated debates, there are very few in betweeners just very strong viewpoints on both sides of the argument.
Don't take it to heart, its a volatile subject. BTW, I'm a non believer but its my opinion
