using the site whatcar.info is saying my car is a moderate match lighting up 4.5 stars in orange. strange thing if i add another 100kg on the van weight it changes to 4.5 stars in green. Also if i change to another caravan with the same weight say hobby
van its still fine.

In that case, if you want to check, use a different van. If you know the kerbweight of your car I would not bother.

If you pick another van then after comparison you can increase caravan payload to gey the weight that you want. I would have thought no problem though

I have just used the Towcar.info site that EasyT, put on this thread and I get a completely different ratio to that using the CClub Outfit matching system. The towcar.info site gives me a ratio of 72%, the CClub system gives me 83% ratio. That is a sizeable
difference in ratio,s 11%. All the other figures match up from both sites. Comments??

All I can say is that the CC site had the wrong info for my X-Trail. Way to low a kerb weight!

If you know the mptlm of your van and the kerb weight of your car you can easily work it out yourself and avoid the confusion of the various matching sites.

The CC site is not known for its accuracy.

I use www.towcar.info for guidance as the CC matching service has wrong data for my vehicle. The CC shows the kerbside weight as 1445kg. The manufacturer state the kerbside weight is 1587kg. I took it to a public weigh bridge out of curiosity. The vehicle had full fluid levels otherwise it was empty. It was 1680kg including the 75kg manufacturer allowance for the driver. I appreciate it has the addition of a tow bar.  I take into account that being a class 3 weigh bridge it weighs in multiples of 20kg. Trading Standards confirmed it had recently been tested. I've given the CC feedback on their matching service but have been told there is little then can do as they buy it in.

Write your comments here...This site is inaccurate for both my car and the caravan i'm soon getting.

CC matching service is also incorrect.

In my opinion you cannot beat putting your car on a weigh bridge. You then know the weight previsely and can work from there. We did this before looking for a caravan that the car will tow.

You still need to know the kerbweight declared by the manufacturer for insurance purposes, with mine the policy is void if the weight of the caravan exceeds the car's kerbweight.

even if you're within the gross train weight? Undecided

Except that I have not seen a document from the manufacturer containing that info in my case

Few manufacturers quote the kerbweight in the manner that UK legislation defines it so I wonder where the insurance company gets its information from in the event of a dispute. Usuallly they quote mass in running order but some call that kerbweight which,
strictly speaking, is not the same.

Our dealer told us that all the free sites, CC included, are inaccurate.  They use a site for which they pay a subscription but I cannot remember the name of it.

I have never known a dealer ask about the tow car.

Barrons askedus years ago when we bought a caravan fom them ... that's possibly where they went wrong! Cool The dealer selling us our 'new' caravan
asked us nothing about our towcar despite the caravan being a weighty bugger

Mine is a 2016 model, just tried again and did pick up the car this time, but again no mention of my 2013 Lunar Qausar model.
