Your thoughts re a 2015 Discovery 4 please.
Hi,
I have a 5 year old Volvo XC60 D5 AWD which I have had zero problems with and tows our Sterling Continetal 580 fine. However, as I have never had a car for so long before, I am toying with the idea of a 2015 Disco HSE.
Could I have your comments on the following please:
- Solo mpg
- Towing mpg
- Reliability
- Servicing costs
- And lastly - should I do it?
Many thanks,

Hi Ken, We have had four discoveries and a freelander and currently run a Disco 4.
Solo can average 36 to 42
Towing a 1500kg caravan 28-30
Reliabilty - never had any trouble with any of them (never broken down)
Servicing annually from our local 4 x 4 specalist (can give you the company if you want) was £264 this year.
Yes go for it,
Regards

Those figures are better than my XC60 D5... and a lot better than a close friend who runs a Discovery 4....

With good servicing and correct tyre pressures these figures are easily achievable. I get better mpg than hubby solo and towing much to his disgust. Neither of us are speed freaks and just stick to the limits but he is more heavy footed than me lol. The
automatic gear box is so smooth and the acceleration is instant. If you sit at 65-70 along a motorway solo the results are amazing for a vehicle which weighs 3 tonnes.0 -
With us, it is the OH that is heavy footed although she claims she is a better driver than me. As if....

The Discovery 4 can also travel at 5mph on tickover, which seems to upset many of the site users who are in an infernal rush to somewhere.

I think I upset someone last week by driving at or around 5mph on site ..... he was sat on my bumper the whole way to our caravan

Hmm! I always do 5mph and always have someone tailgating me, most usually women for some reason.
We have a Discovery 3 HSE. I retired it from heavy, stressful work including towing when it reached 150,000 miles. People are frightened about reliability but for us we had no major trouble as in it never left us stranded anywhere. Some minor niggles that
were more annoying than breaking down or expensive.I used to get about 23 - 26MPG while towing a huge 3500kgs box trailer all over Europe. A tad more than the 85% towing rule. lol
