Anybody that cannot double declutch should not be driving. Anybody that needs power steering should not be driving. Radial tyres? What was wrong with my old John Bull Crossply remoulds? A HEATER! THAT IS FOR SOFTIES! Good grief, what will they think of next?
Maps that show you where to go as you drive? Anybody that needs one of those should not be driving.Utter claptrap.

great piece of technology but.....
the main reason folk give when struggling with parallel parking is 'i dont know which way to turn the wheel.....'
this is the very thing that probably worries the life out of those who 'do know which way to turn the wheel....'
lets hope the former group are OK with this 'steering' technique when travelling in a forward direction....
Same problem some people have when driving a radio controled car towards themselves.
It's not a problem, but some people can do it naturally, some have to learn how to do it.0 -

It's not a problem, but some people can do it naturally, some have to learn how to do it.....and some, despite passing a driving test, really dont have a clue why they have to turn the wheel 'that way'....

Indeed it is John, so never the vehicle of choice for ladies in Pencil type skirts, unless they were looking for a "Gentleman"
But some had an electric start ..... dynastart, hence the abilty to start them up in reverse to give reverse gearS.
Well I'll go back into the Majestic Dance Hall then, if my talents ain't wanted, Sniff, snivel, sob !

Anyone remember BMW Isetta and Heinkel Bubblecars ? 2-stroke engines, front opened as a door, and no reverse gear....... story was that there were hundreds of owners in their garages, pulled up to rear wall and unable to get out. Who knows some may still
be there.? Messerscmitts were better, as they had an opening hood, so you could bail out, like an aeroplane.0 -

I hope you did not seriously believe that?! Mollys Mum is right, it was a joke, clearly a bit too subtle for you! My point is progress has made driving easier, more efficient, and safer. Why not have a car that can park itself? And be automatic? Great idea
I think. Yes it takes the skill away, but heck, that is progress I am afraid and it is humans that tend to be the weak link. Ask a pilot. In fact, many a time was I thought a self-drive car would be a Godsend. However, to get back into my (now old-hat) Roadster is a real blast. The 1964 MGB I had before had no heater, no PAS, no SAT NAV, no syncro on 1st and 2nd, and it was great fun. But living everyday with a car means making life as easy as possible, so my
everyday car is my Santa Fe. With a heater.0 -

Sadly, the more safety gadgets on a car the less safe the drivers are, because they let the cars do the thinking for them. So, t my that is not progress!

But on the whole, when ABS ESP EBA etc etc take over from the weakest link ie the nut holding the wheel ..... cars are safer now than they ever were

IMO that assertion is missing the point, the application of technology makes the vehicle much safer, be it in the hands of a skilled or unskilled driver; thats good news as there are plenty of the latter about. Park assist whilst not going to save much personal injury will on my experience of it, save a few expensive or pride hitting scuffs; I would like to think those parking and leaving parking spaces each side of me are deploying it.
As an aside why do we so often find those with the smallest vehicles on the road struggle the most to park in a single bay; is it because many of those buying them know they are unable to park?

What do you reckon, Mollys Mum, can you park yours? Shall we tell him?!

Our roads around here together with our supermarket car parks have not the required room, pre parking, to habitually do that!

How do you get the boot open to put your shopping in?

I still don't beleive that 'park assist' will get you into a slot as well as a driver who knows how to do it.
Believe what you like! They are superb and do exactly what is said on the can so to speak. And for backing ito a space as well . The only problem is that they are a little slow if you are doing it in heavy traffic .

Maps that show you where to go as you drive? Anybody that needs one of those should not be driving.Write your comments here...I had a go last weekend in a 1957Austin A35 saloon . In the 70's they were bad and they still are , Bakes diabolical, hard with zero feel, steering ,loads of feel but like driving a speedboat at slow speed. Suspension ---- checked
the shockers they were there, in principal anyway . No synchro on first ,not much on any other come to that nececitating the need for double de clutching and a blip to change down A lot of "fun" at 20mph . I love the technology ,the only annoying thing is
2015 Tiguan has a handbrake that defies all logic to get it off without putting seatbelt on ,like when reversing caravan and jumping in and out at gates on site ect0 -
Think the Club could make some money developing a Park Assist to reverse a caravan right to the little post with no hands on the wheel.

Don't knock it, Martin, that ability got me home when the clutch cable on my Fiat 128/3P broke miles & miles from home !! A little rough from a standing start I grant you, but hardly a crunch or crash after that !!

It already exists. It is called a "motor mover".

Write your comments here...you would to have to double de clutch on the old lorry in the early 50/60s. Also possible to change gear on a car without using the clutch just by listening to engine revs.

Incidentally, driving using only brakes & accelerator and I just could NOT stop trying to use the utterly useless clutch foot !!
Write your comments here...I could suggest sitting on your left leg but I guess like me that would take a bit of doing at
our age. . Don't forget Kington Show ,Powys , I think it is in August.0 -

Now, ask someone who has passed their test in the last 20 years to double de clutch and you will have someone with a blank expression on their face!

Why would they unles they'd bought themselves an old Foden wagon or some other old vehicle (the Foden was a guess), we have synchro gearboxes now on all gears. It'd be like asking someone from today to use a slide rule or Otis King ........ we now have calculators.
I recently tried to logs & antilog tables ....... I very quickly gave up ..... no need0
