Is a 75kg towball limit a problem?
I'm looking to replace my 2012 Mondeo (which has a towball limit of 90kg) with a 2015 model. This new model only has a limit of 75kg and I'm a bit concerned about being able to get the noseweight of my Lunar Quasar 524 down to 75kg. With only one gas bottle
in the front locker plus some leveling blocks and with not much in the front internal lockers I have always found it to be a bit of a challenge to get the noseweight down to about 85kg. This is with the majority of clothes in the wardrobe at the rear end and
the Aquaroll and Wastemaster in the shower at the back of the van. We don't always take an awning and, if we do it is usually in the car. Does anyone with a Quasar 524 have any trouble in achieving 75kg maximum?

Our Lunar Delta also has problems in getting its nose weight down to 75kg due to gas bottles & a spare wheel up front. I towed it originally with an Omega that had a max hitch weight of 75kg, though I suspect it often had more, with no problems but the car
had self levelling rear suspension which probably disguised any over weight well0 -
The latest Mondeo has a NW limit of 90kg, 90kg not 75kg as in the brochure.
Contact ford CS for confirmation if you need it.

If 90kg is the noseweight limit is it not strange that Ford have not amended their online specification documentation After several months? I hope it is 90kg as I would like to get a newer model but I'm certainly not going to just believe the CC who have
said it is now 90kg. When I queried it with them they suggested it might be better if I contacted Ford direct. Unfortunately Ford themselves couldn't confirm the correct figure and suggested I speak with one of their dealers. Talk about passing the buck.0 -
I know I will be inviting a response here Molly, but I tow my Delta with a noseweight of 94 kg and have no trouble whatsoever. I cannot achieve the 85 kg with what we take and how I want to travel ,my Lexus 350 RX like your Merc has no trouble whatsoerver
in doing the job. Stability & acceleration are superb. I am sat down ready and waiting for the flak!0 -
My R Class has no problems at all level wise with what goes on or in the back of it, its Airmatic pumps up to suit.
Ironically it's sat on my drive at the moment feeling poorly ..... I appear to have a leak somewhere and it's let me down as well as itself! I feel a large dent coming in the wallet dept.

Write your comments here...It must be annoying for you as you seem to be able to repair most things relating to vehicles. I hope it is not too costly for you,I bet you fix it yourself when you have found the leak. Best of luck.

Thanks!
There is a financial incentive to find it myself ..... £1000 or there about for MB to replace the complete unit (they only do the complete unit) or if it's just the bag, they're available from Europe for around £150. LR equivalents are pennies by comparison

Write your comments here... Molly you would have been in longer proabley if the wages were what they are now. I know I would, even though I have been lucky mainly through hard work, but I have no complaints.

I really can't remember what I brought home in 88 when I left - it wasn't bad though, I know my first week's wage in Sept 79 was £18 (after food & accom)

But isn't part of the question about the security of the towbar to the vehicle body and the strength of the mounting points? Many outfits might be very stable and the car accelerate well but what excessive strain is been put on
the mountings if the load is above the maximum specified? Everything has a limit before it breaks and dynamic force on a towbar can be far greater than the static force. An unexpected stretch of poorly surfaced road can cause even the, otherwise, very stable
outfit to pitch excessively and increase the dynamic pressures on the towbar substantially.0 -

If you are going to be towing anything but a compact, light, 2-4 berth I should think that 75 kg limit is a major problem. It seems to me that many large vans are designed to be towed with a 4 X 4. I could not get our Bailey down to less than 100 kg even
loading the back end and with one gas bottle.0 -
Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhh!!! I've just been in touch with the CC and told them what Ford have told me, that the towball limit is 75kg. The CC are tellling me that they, the CC, must be correct because they have spoken to someone at Ford who has said the specification
data is wrong and the limit is 90kg. Who the h*ll do I believe? I have asked the CC to provide me with written documentation from Ford supporting their claim of 90kg. So far I have seen nothing but I have suggested that, at the very least, the CC publish
a note of caution in the magazine that the information that they quoted is being queried and shouldn't, at this stage, be relied on.0 -
I have spoken to Ford who did confirm that the handbook went out before they could adjust the noseweight from 75kg to 90kg. The Mondeo that was entered into TowCar of the Year competition did have 90kg noseweight. I am sorry for the confusion.
The Mondeo has had a noseweight of 90kg since 2008 so I would be very surprised as to why they would reduce it now, seeing as it is such a capable towcar.

5 years ago I had a Mondeo Zetec Estate 2 litre . My German Shepperd dog rode in the back all the time we were in the car. My Caravan was as is now a Luner Delta 520 so would appear to be to have a too heavy noseweight. Whether it was right or wrong,I had
Auto Ballons fitted to the car .I never experienced any trouble whatsoever with stability, ride or acceleration. I loaded the caravan to what I considered to be the best way possible to be safe. We traveled many thousands of miles touring Scotland and much
of Wales and the West Country with no mishaps.0 -
