Judging from the numbers of cars you see with only one working brake light, any form of warning is not a universal provision.

Indeed. For the pennies it would add to the cost of a new car it should be manadtory for manufactures to fit some kind of brake light check ...even  my 89 Senator had it.

Result with original thread about indicator warning.

Happy Two resistors were fitted inline with indicator wiring behind caravan fuse board. This returned the audible warning
    sound.

Happy days! Can actually look forward to an outing with our new 'showroom' caravan after two months of constant problems, 5 return trips to dealer after having replaced a damaged seat, damaged drawer, missing screw covers, moving fixings to their correct
alignments, solar panel recall and the indicator warning.

Bailey Caravans supply an adapter called LEDmaster that solves all the problems, and still keeps the indicator legal.

Is it legal requirement when towing a caravan that when using the indicators there has to be an audible 'beeping'?

We had the beeper when towing with a 60 plate Insignia, however changed our car to a '15 plate Sorento with dealer fitted Kia tow bar and there is no beeping when using the indicators. Before I look silly going back the the dealers, is beeper required by
    law?

My first two cars had bleepers , my current car  when I had the towbar fitted 5 years ago has a gizmo of a flashing trailer in my dash next to my indicator flasher , if the indicators on the van don, t work then the flashing trailer fails to work also .

Others better qualified will answer but I thought that as long as there was an indication of failure then it was OK. On some cars if the caravan indicator failed the light indicator in the car would flash double time as with a car indicator failure. We do
have aaudible beep but noy sure that it is necessary to know that it is working .... just to know when when it isn't

Sure an indication, not necessarily a sound indicator,  of trailor indicator light failure is sufficient.  Worked on my Tiguan when one of the caravan indicator bulbs went last year; got 'trailor indicator failure' waning on dash.

No. You just need an indication of some kind that the caravan's indicators are indicating. That might be via AN Other tell-tale lamp or like my car, the tell-tale does a double flash as the car would if one of its indicators failed. I can think of nothing
more irritating than a buzzer ....

My indicators bleep when operating with the van on. Serves as a useful reminder to make additional allowances.
