As already commented the large side door of a PVC can be difficult to shut fully and if it isn't shut properly as evidenced for example by a little light being visible at the bottom of the door then what do people do but try again. One of the causes is air
resistance/displacement within an otherwise "airtight" van so the trick is to open a window or heki first then close the door.Can see no reason/excuse for running the engine though.

I might have to slam my slidey door extra hard this evening on site, unless of course I post my husband through an open window no doubt that will please you.
Find the next thing to moan about you miserable lotProbably the view of the rear end of your husband being posted through the open window

i wonder if the early morning engine runing was anything to do with the message that some modern vehicle can put on screen to the effect of
"Battery is low. Start engine or vehicle will shut down".Not yet had the nerve to find out what is involved in the shut down.

Once spent a month on a Spanish campsite next to a German 'slidyvan man' who at 5am every morning went for a shower and returned at 5.30am without fail then at 6am his wife did the same, had a word with him after two weeks of this about the noise so early
and next morning he went for his shower at 6am with his wife. This had a damaging affect on us because we have never been back too La Manga since and that was ten years ago. Not pitched next too 'slidyvan man' since.0 -
I am really surprised at the open aversion on here to being pitched next to a panel van conversion with a sliding side door. People openly stating that they do not want to be next to slidy van men or door slammers etc. when there are quite a number of members
who own such vehicles on here, including myself. Thankyou for making us feel so welcome on caravan club sites.0 -

There are lots of niggles you could moan about. On a CL for a quiet long weekend, a small caravan parked close side by side to us to get near the hookup point. We could have leant out the window and tapped his window. He also lit his bar-b-que and smoked
us out. As we were only there for a short break we did not complain and subsequently when OH spoke to owner turned out it was their first trip as caravanners so had lots to learn. 'L' plates on van appropriate maybe? It is not just fellow campers that can
spoil a break. On another coastal CL site with glorious views, where we had gone for a quiet long weekend break to get away from our noisy neighbours and smelly BBQs, what did we get? Just that from the owners of the CL who had a large noisy, smelly family
gathering immediately in front of our MH. Owners screaming grandchildren apparently lived on site and noise was incessant at times. Reluctant to leave as had paid up front. Weather glorious so went for several long walks to get away. Owners obviously do not
realise that are jeopardising their business. We did not complain, just quietly left, but we would certainly not recommend the site to other campers so lost business there.0 -

There is nothing more jarring on the nerves when trying to relax than to constantly hear the noise

) of the door being pulled back then slammed time and time again, I'm truely sorry if it upsets you or anyone
else that has one of these vans. Maybe now its been mentioned on here folk might think twice before slamming them every 2 mins day and night.0 -
Ridiculous!! I think all campers with sliding doors should be banned from the CC! Along with flags, dogs, children, and also caravanners (always got cars with 4 slamming doors!!)
...I understand that wardens do not get complaints of one sort or other on their sites just before they are open , and just after they close

It was a very tongue in cheek comment K&M, as others were labelling slidy van man and door slammers etc I thought I would have a go at labelling others just to see what it was like.. I couldn't really care less who is next to us....
The underlying problem, as others have said is that the doors are not designed to be shut from the inside and it is impossible to do without
being quite heavy handed.. If anyone wants to demonstrate a quiet way to do it I am happy to learn..Write your comments here...I have recently downsized to a slidey door van, after not liking them next to me before, SO, we are very careful, trying not to cause too much noise, closing the door, unfortunately this backfired on me recently, I hadnt shut
it properly, and it rained in the night , i woke up getting very wet ! And had to slam the door in the middle of the night.I am sure that if an aftermarket company started selling an electric sliding door closing system for RHD Fiat Ducato/Peugeot Boxer/ Citroen X250/290 camper vans at a realistic price, they would sell loads, especially to CC members who are (normally) very
considerate to their fellow campers, in my experience. They DO exist, as i looked at a new VW camper, that had one fitted.....great.0 -

Ray, soft-close is definitely available for the Ducato/Boxer as i have seen it in the spec on some vans from last year onwards.
however, i dont know if there is an after market addition....

Just joined the CC and reading through this post..wow!! some people have way to much time on their hands!! Sliding door noise?? I own a Ducato conversion, keep the rollers well 'lubed and when closing from the outside 'lean' on the door to latch it, no slamming
required! From the inside mine a has a large rubber block to grip on to close, but this is no noisier than closing a cab door from the inside..Cheers everyone, try and 'live and let live' where possible maybe..

When we were tent campers our hearts sank whenever a VW Caravette arrived on site. They always parked next to us and that sliding door had to be opened and closed every few minutes. Now we have a van conversion with a massive sliding door which cannot be
closed quietly. Once settled, leccy plugged in etc, I use the back door until we move off again.Never have to run the engine while on site. That's a curse from canal boats.
Not so many VW's about now, I think their owners have the cars on site with 8 doors and 3 boot lids. You know, the folk who load their cars one shoe/coat/water bottle etc at a time.
