Having looked on several manufacturers' websites, OH has found quite a few possibilities with very similar layouts and weights, but a very large variation in price when comparing new prices.

Presumably the price reflects the equipment level and the quality of the build?  So you get what you pay for.

We are not necessarily  looking for luxury, but do not want to go too "cheap and cheerful", and would want a reliable vehicle.  Are there any makes which in that case are best avoided?

Write your comments here...Base vehicle is likely to be a Fiat or Peugot so both built in same factory and just as reliable as each other as far as I know.

My preference is to avoid UK makes due to past issues with UK caravans and their QC which seems non existant but others will differ.  Main thing is getting the layout you want in the price you can pay and weight in your case. Euro vans probably less equipment
but better thought out and better quality, ask what you really want.  However saying that ours came with Oyster Sat TV, it waas not on out list of must or nice to haves but having now had it it would be on the must haves in future!!

i think Michael has summed it up well....

there are budget UK brands....Elddis, Swift Escape, Autotrail's Tribute brand etc....

there are also budget Euro brands....however, there are three Euro 'budget' brands that mimmic their parent brand for 'build' and have made good reputations on their own....

Sunlight (Dethleffs), Carado (Hymer) and Sun Living (Adria).

Rapido have now released the Dreamer brand, but this may be for PVC only.

for 2017 Carthago will bring the Malibu brand over from Europe, currently for PVC's.

i think, if the weights/layouts were as i wanted, i would be looking at a roughly 2 yr old Carthago, Hymer, A-class as you will get the quality you wont see in a cheaper, newer van.

If looking at new, then Knaus, Laika, Hymer Exsis are nice...even Rapido...

Chausson are wonderfully innovative, but the interiors will be marmite and seem ghastly to most UK 'trad' afficionados...

Ive just re-read the What Motorhome review of the Dethleffs 4-Travel T6966-4 (which is the same as the Burstner youve been looking at) and it was pretty glowing....Burstner and Dethleffs are part of the Hymer group, and its now confirmed that Neismann+Bischoff
sit at the top of the Hymer hierarchy for quality (and price), followed by Laika and Hymer, then Dethleffs, then Burstner which is moving away from its very large twin axles into the smaller mainstream....

With this in mind, id go for the Dethleffs version over the Burstner Ixeo it 680G, but dealer locations may influence this...

again, good hunting....its a big old marketplace out there....Happy

Don't consider buying without having a really good look around lots of makes Knjell. We went with an open mind regarding both UK and overseas makes, but it quickly became apparent which had the quality feel and robust fittings. We were by no means impressed
by all the overseas makes either. We did see one MH that was a tad different, think it was British, might have been a Swift, had a fully opening rear tailgate, which sort of appealed to us as we love being outdoors.

Write your comments here...Then read SWIFT talk and other forums to see all the problems people have had with them... not saying you wont get issues with all makes even top range like carthago, hymer etc. (even my knaus has a couple of issues) but at least you will be able to use it.

remember the common itmes (toilets, fridge, cooker etc) will be dometic or thetford its the drawers, doors etc. where the quality will show, soft close, proper runners.

Some seriously rich people on this forum!

....and some seriously rich dreamers, it would seem....Wink...N+B a seriously nice MHHappy

a nice £60k MH (not N+B as youll need more than this...) changed after 10 years would still probably be worth almost half its value....though lets say £25k.

    thats a £35k hit over 10 years....£3.5k a year...

i'll wager some spend twice this amount changing their caravans every couple of years...so after five changes, thats (oh!) £35kHappy

Some seriously rich people on this forum! – I very much doubt that !!!

The ‘Seriously Rich’ list amongst their hobbies, buying Football Clubs and the purchase of grossly over payed Players, whilst cruising in the Caribbean on their Yachts (yes I do mean plural).

Not sharing a field, even if it does have some tarmac roads and a toilet block, with the hoi polloi in our, what we consider expensive Motor Homes and Caravans.
