External storage
We have seen in the CC classifieds section a MH that may fit our requirements (approx 6m, front lounge, bike carriers etc) but where it seems to fail is storage space for thngs like chairs/tables/cycle bags or even a BBQ. Now I accept that compromises will
have to be made but if we are to tour for months at a time, lounging type chairs are a necessity.
Can external lockers be added, either on the roof or below the bikes to accommodate our bits and pieces so that we are glad all over - apologies to Dave Clark Five fans (if they still exist!)

Unfortunately I believe a trailer would restrict the ease of travellling and sightseeing en route. Reversing a litle trailer is very difficult when you cannot even see it. If we went down that route it might be better just buying a caravan

Thank you HD, I will have a look!

Simple - just buy a bigger MH. Problem solved.
More a case of swapping around - thoughts, that is.

I don't think making do with one lounger and one cycle helmet is a good idea

Unless you go for a fixed bed, with under bed storage, is there ever room for decent loungers in a MH?

You are asking an auful lot of a 6m Motorhome. Ours is 7.3m and we have everything we need in it. If you want to carry lots of STUFF then you need something with a garage at the back. Ours hold 2 electric bikes , Recliners, Windbreak, Watering Cans and electric
cables. Weighed it the other day. Full tank of fuel, Two gas Bottles, 100Lt of water , bikes etc and me. Just under 4000Kg. So the more you carry the heavier it gets. Some are only rated at 3500kg, Go over that and you are certainly in trouble if you get pulled
over by the Police.0 -
D&S, or whoever, will definitely need more than 6m to fit all that in.

There is or was a company that would fit a drawer into the side of motorhome side skirts. The name was Beeny Box and they where based in Redruth. I had one fitted and was very pleased with the result, but that was way back in 1997.

The trouble with adding external storage boxes is that, rear mounted, they increase shipping length and all of them use payload.
It's Pie in the sky to try to fit a quart into a pint pot.

You can get storage adaptions done, at a price, also boxes can be added to some bike carriers. The alternative is to go for fold up chairs and loungers etc which will fit into narrow storage bags. We've done this with our 5.9 motorhome, we do have a reasonable
sized external locker which helps.0 -
just offering help
I know, Husky. It's the OP who's high on pie.

...yes.....
with a double floored MH, there is often storage for flat items like outdoor tables and chairs, between the floors...
INHO, this is a far better solution than those often employed by vanners with limited external storage/access, which is to place outdoor kit in vulnerable areas like showers....
examples of front lounge vans within the 6m-6.5m (ish) range (non UK, im afraid) are....
Pilote 600 LA and 650 LA (6m and 6.5m respectively)
Hymer B544 (6.5m)
Rapido 9048 (6.5m)
Frankia 640 (6.4m)
There are now a new breed of slimmer designs that incorporate a large boot/garage that may fit the bill...
Hymer Exsis-i (A-class) or Exsis-t (low profile) 414 (6m)
Carthago C-Compactline 138 (6.4m)
there are also many small (6m) vans from uk manufacturers giving decent lounge space but dont have the storage areas you seek....the obvious answer is a fiamma back box, but these sit on the bike rack which will be occupied by your bikes.
a top box might do the trick but youll need some way of getting up there....
good luck.

a PS to the above....
have a look at Buerstner Ixeo Time IT range, there are two 6m models with drop down beds, large shower rooms an 'reasonable' rear external storage...
similarly, Chausson also have the 610 at 6m which has a similar layout to the Ixeo above.....
the biggest issue is having chairs that, when folded, are flat bit still wide....one compromise would be to go for the 'chair in a bag' design.....but i wouldnt sit in those with my bad back....

I can vouch for the Chausson 610 mentioned by BB. 6.5m, very comfortable electric drop down bed, will easily seat 6 around the table, fabulous "bathroom" with full size shower tray and very nicely appointed in the Welcome spec. Most importantly for you,
it has an enormous garage, with access from both side and rear. We took delivery of our in spring and are very pleased with it. A lot of MH for the money.0 -

I am not a great fan of the euro lounge and if
you cannot use the driving seats that does seem a major flaw0 -
What about a top box? I used to fit a Lafuma lounger in mine.
Peedee
Peedee, .. I did think of a top box but not sure if the overall height would then be under 3m ( for tolls) and also how easy it would be to use. I presume you would always need to remove the bikes before accessing it.
