Caravan leg steady problems - repair or replace

Hi everyone,

I have a Swift Corniche 12/2 (1988) and the rear leg steady (caravan door-side) is damaged. The leg winds down halfway but as soon as I put weight on it it pushes up again.

Is this likely to be the thread or the tunnion damaged?

Also, does anyone know if the legs are also welded to the chasis along with being bolted?

Any help would be much appreciated. I think what we've done is to over-tighten the leg which has broken it.

Look forward to any suggestions...thank you in advance!

Alex

They are quite cheap to buy and just bolt on (on my Bailey, anyway).

In the 1980s many corner steadies  were fitted with nylon or plastic bushes which wore out fairly quickly. I replaced a few with metal very easily and have just had a look at  leisure shop direct who can supply a standard Alko 20mm replacement for under £7-00 if this is the right size. Others are available on ebay or at dealers.
