Four Kilowatt Heating???
I was idly looking through the Eldis Explore range and glanced at specifications. It says: 4kW Space-saving Whale heating - runs on gas or electric with quiet night-time setting - internally ducted heating throughout including bathrooms. Surely not
4KW on electric. Can't be many sites with that supply?

The Truma heater in my 'van is 3kw on maximum on electric and it is possible to also run the gas burner at the same time. I think it is also about 3kw but to damn hot when I tried it!

Its actually 2.8kw on gas and 2kw on electric giving a combined output of 4.8Kw

It's worth saying although the capacity of the boiler is 8kW. Alde rate the convectors as 400W per metre for a single and 600W for a double banked convector That means to make full use of the potential output A caravan would have to be fitted with 20m
of single or 13m of double convectors. Not sure such a van exists?0 -
However that does not affect the speed at which the water or heating fluid is heated just its rate of heat distribution.
"Just its rate of heat distribution". Personally I think that is the single most important attribute of a heating system.

I Agree It probably would be if you were heating a huge space. However even at 3kw mine keeps the van at 21c at temps down to -8. But my original post was just to point out that a 4Kw heater is nothing out of the ordinary and that in fact the Alde has a
larger Electric heating unit. and also that this whale "4Kw" heater is actually rated when both gas and electric are being used and that the electric is only2Kw. so no problem on hook ups which is what the OP's post was about0 -
My points however badly made were.
1 Not all Alde installations are created equal
2 In the middle of winter when I go to my van on a Friday night and the temperature has been below freezing for the last week. I want know how quickly after arriving on site I can take my coat off. Because the van has warmed up.
3 A side issue with the last van with the Truma Ultraheat system on the rare occasions we are on ehu. We could wait for the 2kW element to warm the van or we could stick the 5kW gas heater on as well to get warm an awful lot quicker. Then maintain the temp
with the electric.0 -
If you want a quick warm up then it is always recommended to run on combined gas and electric. Once you are up to temperature you can switch the gas off.

my sprite has a combi boiler 4kw gas+2kw elec so we can have 6kw heating full blast or 4 on gas or 2 elec
or 6kw for heating the hot water
warm as toast
if its a Truma Combi 4E....then, no you dont.....
when on mixed mode, you will get upto 1800 w from the electric side but the gas side will only provide upto 2kw, so a max of 3.8 kw.
you will get upto 4kw on gas only.
the combi 6e can provide 1.8 on the electric side and a further 4 kw from the gas side, giving a max of 5.8kw on mixed mode and 6kw when on gas only.
