    Hi

    the original post said they had an affinity 550 like me ,I tried both a whale direct tap to caravan and using the aquarolol and pump, the issue was with the direct tap to caravan in that the toilet is fed from the fresh water not as on most caravans a separate
    tank you fill up. The pressure using the direct connection was insufficient to flush the toilet efficiently.

    I would advise on use the aquaroll method

    not sure if i understand some of the comments made here i use serviced pitches normally with the side entry float valve and the only time i have seen a problem was when the pitch next to me connected the hose the wrong way round , with regard flooding caravan
    i fail to understand how this system could cause a problem, as if the barrel overflowed it would not bypass the pump, this should surely only operate when draw was required inside the van caused by some other unrelated problem much like when a microswitch
    on a tap was opened

    The problems only occur where there is a leak in the caravan. The pressure switch detects loss of pressure and activates pump, more leakage etc. As long as a ballcock tops up the aquaroll the leakage can continue. Best option is to switch the pump off when
    going out for the day.

    so its not the servced pitch connection at fault its just that it continues to fill the barrel, the same problem can occur with a full barrel and the water will stop leaking when it runs dry, but the pump will continue running until it burns out?

    Indeed. I would sooner burn a pump out than flood the van however. Depending on the nature of the leak

    We usually turn off the tap on the pitch when we go out, and thee water pump.  We have the Aquaroll type.

    Turning the tap off on the pitch when you are not on site is a good idea, I think.  It has been known for the hose to come off the tap and if, so it could make rather a mess outside.  We have also been on a small number of sites where we have not been able
    to get a good seal between the tap and the hose (dripping).  We've even been known to switch a tap off and just put it back on to fill the Aquaroll.

    We have experienced one site (somewhere in Cambridgeshire if my memory serves me correctly), where you could have a pitch with water hook up but there was no drainage - you had to get the wastemaster out... Surprised

    Some of the posts mention using garden hose, I found my food grade hose wasn't long enough on one site in France, so bought garden hose as a stop gap, but found it made the water taste foul even after flushing it through thoroughly.  If you use a float valve
    or direct connection, the water sits in the hose for several hours at times, so I would definitely stick to food grade hose, whichever method you opt for.
