Caravan fridge won't stay on!

Hello. As we are non EHU these days, we run our fridge on gas. No problem until now but I can't get it to stay on. I have detected heat from the exhaust so something is happening but then it goes off by itself! Any ideas? I'm about to leave for the IOW and
without a fridge, everything will spoil obviously. I can hear the igniter going and it ignites but doesn't stay on.

Thermocouple failure- so not detecting the flame presence and therefore shutting off the supply? One possibility :(

My guess would be the thermocouple.

I just hope it's not unfiltered gas from the Safefill. That's been worrying me (a bit) and have discussed it on the forum with [Deleted User User] before.

Merve, can you keep us informed about the issue please? If it does turn out to be the unfiltered gas passing something into the system and cloging up the jets I would want to fit a filter into my system.

Cheers Merve and I hope you get it sorted.

I think like Marksailor my first try would be the thermocoupling, this is usally the most common cause of gas not staying on. Good luck and hope you enjoy IOW.

Merve would probably prefer to put sharpened matchsticks under his nails rather than turning on any mains electricityHappy

DD, do you think Merve could be the first of us to have the (alleged) unfiltered gas problem? He probably uses Safefill more than most.

merve, have you tried your water heater or hob on gas....?

this will possibly either rule out regulator failure (if all works ok) and tie the issue to the fridge itself..

..or, if nothing else works, likely to be as DD suggests....Sad

still, this may be an easier swap out?Happy

You do not say which fridge you have.If it is Thetford it could be a faulty pcb or the probe slightly out of adjustment.

Hi guys, well, I got it working eventually but I think the sensor might be on its way out as suggested. One possibility was to try to find a EHU site but I would rather stick pins in my eyes AND put sharpened matchsticks under my nails!! LOL! Seriously though, it would have been an option but we transfer from the mainland to the IOW in the morning so I am concerned that I might have a problem again. If I do I'll have to contact a mobile engineer to see if it can be fixed. All the systems are working brilliantly on the electric/ solar panel side. The only doubt I have is the fridge- it ain't gonna go wrong while its in storage is it so I guess finding out when you are away is always going to be the case. Thanks for all your advice and help guys- much appreciated. The van is very level and all the rest of the gas facilities on board work perfectly.

Fysherman I don't remember having a discussion with you regarding unfiltered LPG but if I did I would have dismissed the idea as causing a problem with LPG fired units.  To try and put it in a nutshell IMO Truma produced a regulator that was unable to handle the product it was expected to regulate.  Instead of holding up their hand and replacing all the faulty units FOC they came up with a money making filter system to overcome a problem that does not exist.  Loads of us use refillable cylinders without problem but some still experience Truma (trauma) regulator failures, including me Yell .:madder:

There you go, you came in mid way. Sorry I don't know how to make it a blue clicky. As a resultof the thread I am keeping my "ear" to the ground in case any evidence emerges. I am thankful this does not appear to be a factor here and I have had no issues in the 2 years since the thread.

    Merve, don't laugh!

Small dead spiders and the remains of spider silk are commonly found in gas jets & pipes after winter storage.

Phone and ask the caravan servicing staff at Glossop Caravans if you think this is unbelievable.

This could be a faulty thermocouple as others have suggested, but a partially blocked gas jet will also cause the exact same fault. The jet hole is minute, so as snowy says, even a strand of spider silk, a dead insect, or the 'crust' from a drop of water
can be enough to stop it generating enough heat to 'trip' the thermocouple.  The fact that yours ahs 'cured' itself, would tend me to suspect a blocked jet rather than a thermocouple fault.
