The Truma heater in my caravan works pefectly on hook up. Using it on gas is another matter. I have had it looked at twice and assured that it ignites. Yesterday I even changed gas bottles in desparation. I have done the obvious and checked that gas is running
through the system by using the cooker. Could somebody help please?

Have you actually seen it working on gas after the person who looked at it twice said it was fine?

Do you hold down the control knob for a while after pressing the ignitor?

There is a sensor (a thermo-couple) that must be within the flame for a few seconds before the fire will stay lit (it's a safety thing).

Sometimes the thermo-couple gets out of position and isn't sat in the flame properly.

Can you see a spark when you press the ignitor?

Can you hear the ignotor clicking when you press it?

have you checked if your isolation valve is in the on position.

usually each appliance has its own isolation valve.

Ian, I did get it to work on one occasion after the mechanic looked at it. I carry out the procedure as you recommend.I cannot remember hearing the ignitor clicking.

Johnathome. The isolation valve should be open as I did manage to light it on one occasion.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. If and when I get it working, I will podt on here and let you know what the problem(s) are.

If you cannot hear the igniter clicking then it might be faulty or it might need a new battery.

The igniter unit clips to the front of the heater, behind the front cover (I only know because ours fell off recently!).

    This is the item
    here
. The 15th and 16th item down the page.

Some of them take a battery and some connect to the caravan 12v system (depends on the age of the van, I think).

Might be worth having a look at this - a battery on its way out might work sometimes and not others.

Ian. There is no battery on this model. I believe it is a Pissa type heater.

John, I think maybe you mean a piezo type of igniter.

They are also available fom the company in the previous link. Also on Ebay, no doubt.

Ian. Thanks for the correction. The way that I spelt it sounded like something you could eat - not eat!
