Can anyone help me as to why my Truma  Type US10 water heater fitted to my Bailey Senator 2007 model has just stopped working on electrics but is fine on gas. I have checked the fuse at the fuseboard and that is ok. I am down in Spain and the local dealer
does not seem to want to get involved. Can I carry out any basic checks with a voltmeter? Is it possibly the thermostat. Any help greatly appreciated..

Is there a thermal cutout switch? We had the same problem last October but ours was a combi. Check the instructions and see if there is one, ours was just a case of pressing it back in but it did take some force and it was recessed so had to use a pencil. You could always ring Truma back home?

PS I assume you've checked that the EHU is working? or not forgotten to switch something on? water heater/electrics....

Thanks for advise. Yes I have electric to the heater( well out of the Mains heater switch) so I will take the cover off and look further to see if there is a cut-out. Sadly no instruction book. Sorry slow reply, wi-fi problems on site.

If I remember correctly the wattage of the heater element is about 700W or so earlier ones were less. Therefore it should be drawing about 3 amps at 230v. If you measure the resistance of the element it should be something like 75 ohms. If it is zero then
the element has failed open circuit.  This should trip the van or site or indeed both electrics. If the resistance is very high then it has failed broken circuit. Either way you will need a new element which are easy to fit as long as you can get at them.

Those are rough figures so if you got a value of 90ohms I wouldn't worry. You are looking for either zero or infinity.

Thanks for all the advise and help received.

I have just removed cover and cannot find a thermal cut-out but to get to it all I had to remove all connections to PCB which appeared to rather loose on the connection (2) so put it all back together after checking fuse etc on PCB and it is now working.
Annoying thing is I don;t really know why. Will have to monitor and see what happens, will report back later.

    Regards.

Well thanks for all your kind comments but sorry to report it has stopped working on electrics again this am. Appears to be a intermittent fault so will wait until we get back home where I can strip it down at leisure and get back-up if needed, which looks
like I will. At least it is working on gas, oh perhaps I should keep quiet!!

The OP did the next best thing to hitting it, he tightened loose connections.  This is often the solution.  A hammer is the last resort!  Well done OP and thanks for telling us what you did, always useful.
