Major damp problems in Lunar Quasar
Has anyone else had major damp problems with the 2014 model Lunar Quasar due to a front panel not being fitting property? Our poor brother-in-law discovered this last year when it went in for a service and it now requires major re-build back at the manufacturer!
(due to the side panels not being installed correctly when built). It has been dragging on for 6 months and they have now written to the Chief Exec, as the caravan is still waiting to be collected from the initial repairers!! Sounds like a big fault in this
model.

As far as I know there is no general problem with this model. Practical Caravans survey suggests that accross the board about 12% of caravans suffer from damp and it just seems to be pot luck if you get one.
Ours gets it service next week so as ever keeping my fingers crossed.
The owners rights are against the dealer however and your brother in law should be down there quoting the sale of goods act and demanding action. If it was bought on HP or he used a credit card for any part then the finance company is also liable. If he
has he should contact them.If he is a member of either club he should speak to their legal helpline for more detailed advice.

We had a 2012 Quasar 556 which was found to be damp at the 2nd service and also had a major paintwork problem on the offside panel. We traded the caravan in for a 2014 Quasar 554 thinking the new construction would be much better. Yes youve guessed it. After
30years caravanning you'd think we would know better.0 -

Noticed damp in our brand new lunar caravan in less than 10months 1st service confirmed it,rusting screws and locker handles ,new. front window needed , new blind needed ,front box not finished off. I fear a long battle ahead to get some satisfaction. Bring
back my old caravan of 16 years a Fleetwood which had no damp until the 15th year.0 -
Our Quasar passed its second service without problem. I do not think there is a design problem it is the one common to all makes, sloppy workmanship. As far as I can see Lunar are no better or worse than the rest. You pay your money and cross your fingers.

2015 Lunar Delta. No damp but already repairs to Alde Heating, Dometic Toilet and problem with onboard water tank. Some of the finishing looks poor quality and I totally agree that most of the issues could be addressed by QA inspections at the factory. Too
much pressure on getting the numbers of vans produced and clear of the line.1 -
My 2014 Cosmos had damp at 1 side locker door @ 1st service and both front and rear panels @ 20 months old. Needless to say I got shut!

I really do get concerned about the number of reports we hear about damp/ water ingress. I feel I am always on the look out for it, and at service time it's the first thing I ask about!

The PE survey would suggest that only Coachaman and Swift do better than 10% of their caravans suffering from damp but they do not give figures for the rest but I suspect it was just over this. It is very difficu;t to tell what the level of the problem is
as it is those with complaints we see on here and most who are happy say nothing. Even the survey could be wrong if it attracts more complainers than the rest but we should be able to see what the clubs survey throws up if we live long enough.0 -
I bought my Lunar Quasar 2 berth new in April this year and not long after had problem with front storage cover which leaked water into the storage compartment. The usual 2 months to get the part and be fixed. at the same time I asked for a damp test Nd
am disgusted to find a 50% damp reading in a whole corner. The caravan is just over 6 months old from purchase. If it takes 2 months for The cover how long I wonder for a damp repair ? Lost conffidence in Lunar and feel like I am just waiting for next damp

problem/area !Given your timeline, I'd not be bothering entertaining repairs, reject it now, no ifs no buts. They had 1 go at it and it's worse from your account, bin it.
Until people reject the poor quality of caravans as entitled, there will be no improvement on quality.
Complacency across the industry is unbelievable, doubtless fuelled by repeat buyers not rejecting poor quality over decades in case they upset that awfully nice dealer they've bought from for years.
Dealers are burdened with the risk that manufacturers haven't got for producing inconsistent caravans. It's not rocket science to assemble common parts in the 21st century. Support the dealers by rejecting poor quality is the only way forward.
Unfortunately we are out of time to reject our Flagship falling apart caravan

In September this year we were part exchanging our 2014 Lunar Cosmos (Quasar dealer special) but when we arrived to do the change-over our caravan was found to have damp in the front corner so we had to take it back home again.
The caravan went to the dealer under warranty straight away to bge assessed and they gave us a repair date of .............wait for it..............February 2017............a full 5 MONTHS after first finding the damp.
I made a bit of a song and dance and they have arranged for me to take it to a different dealership to get a slightly earlier repair but we have to travel to get it done. Our new caravan is sitting at the dealers waiting for our Lunar to be repaired and
it has really taken the shine off getting a new caravan.1
