Tyre information

The date of manufacture is on the tyre as a four figure number on the side wall -it will be in a sausage shaped recess on the wall near the DOT  markings.The first two digits are the week of manufacture and the second two are the year. 2015 equals week 20
of 2015.From that date you can work out the age of the tyre and change them in line with recommendations for their use from your advising body be they the CC or whoever.I am not getting into when to change, as opinions differ.I changed the Michelins on my
 Feb  09 reg PVC this January because I got a good deal on four of them and they were getting ready to change anyway.

Whatever the date on the tyre says inspection is important I changed mine last year after 4.5 years and only about 6000 miles and they were protected from uv light with covers whilst at home.The Service Engineer showed me cracks in the treads and inner walls
that I did not see,real scary stuff. When I bought them new they were off a good quality and a good brand. 

I have read and had it confirmed that if your caravan tyres run at high pressure then it is advised to change them after three years and certainly before five.

Sorry can't do link as don't know how but it says that tyres inflated above 50psi should be closely examined after three years and replaced before five where's lower is recommended to be replaced at five but definitely before seven if I remember correctly. It affects me so when I had mine replaced while they were fitting new ones I asked there opinion and they were in agreement.

Hi nuggy, can't speak for john but mine says 65psi in my manual and it also states on side of tyre for the weight load index required 65psi. Hope this helps.

Write your comments here...it is not in law yet, but air bags have a design life of ten years, it was just my thinking that if a govt wanted to remove a lot of older cars they introduce air bag in to the mot, I do not trust any govt not to.The date stamp
on tyres is here, we will wait and see when that is included in the mot

the usual is a maximum of five years use then change them to be on the safe side I always put tyre savers under mine when in storage and if I get a good level pitch I use them on site as well.

After a recent valve failure, I had both tyres checked whilst off the rim. The tyres are 6 years old, and fitter said no visible deterioration external or internal. He did comment that most problems with old tyres are valves - poor quality cheap parts. I'
ve had five valves fail in last few years on my car and caravan. May well be worth the inexpensive job of replacement, and the fitter can thoroughly check tyre at the same time.
