    I just wish they would do it elsewhere, my heart sinks when they descend on a quiet site and instantly it becomes more like high season.

    You can always move on David! I am very much an independant traveller see my
    >web site<     but if so inclined it does not put me off being socialable and joining THS,rallies or escorted tours it it suits. I am not a recluse.

    David you can't really "speak for the majority of independents" you are just voicing your own opinion. This doesn't help those who are interested in trying out rallies or tours, it's sometimes good to try out new things. When I first finished work I sought peace and quiet, but now I like a mix of venues and I'm glad to have the choice. Smile

    Most of the comments on here have been useful, I hope the OP lets us know how they get on if they decide to try a tour or rally.

    I would suggest they are no more insular than people who "want to be alone." Smile

    We have on occasion moved pitch and even site and stopped using one altogether but I dont see why we should. We are not recluses either and I know we can make a dam nuisance of ourselves when socialising with a just few other people  so am under no illusions
    about what is going to follow when a group of 30 or more outfits arrive. There is a place for rallies IMO and its not in the middle of a commercial site.

    having booked a fair few holiday rallies in the past I actually agree with you and would always look for sites that have their own rally facilities, some commercial sites do and they are seperate from the main site. Unfortunately it is not always possible
    to visit the sites before booking and check them out but at least these days the www helps with remote checking Laughing. In the past we
    have been on holiday on a rally site and as organisers we are the first van in so usually nearest the main site and believe me - we can be disturbed by those staying on the main site just as much. We often remark that non-ralliers don't observe the 11 o'clock
    rule like we do (even on holiday)

    Thanks for replies , i must say ive been on 2 ths with the other club at ripon racecourse , and olivers mount in scarborough and really enjoyed them they were very informal and you had tons of space  im surprised the cc dont organise them :)) cheers mrs

    Mrs bc, check your magazine regularly, admittedly it isn't in this months but then there is a lot of AGM & design awards stuff so probably no room together with the time of year (and most events being already booked up) but look for the Calendar pages... I randomly picked up the september issue and it is on page 116 .. Stay on a temporary site...these are just like the other clubs 'ths' and of course there are also rallies organised by the centres all over the country, we don't call them ths but we do organise them.

    I would like to say a big thank you to all who have contributed to the discussion generated by my original post. To say that I was surprised by the reaction would be an understatement! For what it is worth, however, I have not been discouraged by those who have pointed to the negative aspects. On the contrary, those of you who have argued in favour of tours (as part of a larger itinerary) have convinced me to give it a try. Which one to go for? Now that is the question! Thanks again.

    Hi, the site we are overwintering on here in Spain, Camping Marjal Costa Blanca, has an annual rally from November to April run by the C&CC. They have an allocation of around 200 pitches and usually by new year it's full. A lot of people come on this rally just to do their own thing and are not ralliers at all, but it's a cheap way to get some winter sun. You do meet some nice folks on a rally!
