Holland next year
We are thinking of spending two weeks next June in Holland (OH can only take max 2 consecutive weeks holiday at any time). Can anyone recommend sites, advice etc. Will we need to prebook for June? Looking to cross from Harwich.

You won't see it all. It's 200 miles from Maastricht in the south to Groningen in the north - and both of them worth visiting. And in between are historic towns, gardens, museums, lots of art galleries, palaces, big windswept beaches, and Amsterdam. So start
with a general guidebook and choose what interests you and you want to see and do - there are campsites everywhere and an ACSI card will get you in to most of them without booking in June.0 -
OK, sounds a good plan.
For coast and wide open beaches they tell me that Texel island in the north is the place to go, but it's another ferry crossing and we never made it over there. Perhaps you will.
For National Park we stayed a few days at Camping de Pampel at Hoenderloo - a choice of woodland pitches or around the edge of a big meadow. It's at the gate of the Hoge Veluwe national park in Gelderland - sandy heaths and woodland with a museum full of Van Gogh paintings in the centre. We parked and picked up free bikes at the entrance, but you might not want a full week there. Hope it goes well for you.

Twice we have come home from Austria through Holland. First time we stopped at Camping Warnsborn near to Arnhem in Gelderland which is a very interesting place with Museum on Operation Market Garden It is an ACSI Site but not in the Camping Card Scheme
but currently €22 on edge of National Park. The other site we have been to is ACSI Camping Card Camping de Cauberg further South near to Maastricht and Calkenburg. If you go
here you will find details and photo's of both Sites and places to visit in HollandDianneT

One thing to bear in mind for next year June is that it is Whitsun weekend on 4 and 5 June. Schools are closed as well as a lot of shops (on Monday the 5th).
Some sites also do not accept the ACSI card during that period, so perhaps something to take into account.

Many thanks to all who have offered advice, tips etc. We won't be going until the middle of June, so will miss the Whitsun holidays. We have been to Holland before, on a coach trip to the bulbfields, and also spent 10 nights at Humen Bos site via the CC
travel service peak season a few years ago. Now I'm retired and no longer tied to School Holidays, really want to try a more independent and flexible approach, shame OH still has leave restrictions or we would be joining the ranks of the extended trips brigade.
Will certainly look at the ACSI route. Again many thanks all, and feel free to continue to offer advice.0 -
Nice to get a thank you, scoutman. Very often people ask for advice, others give it, but then the OP is never heard of again I realise
the info is also useful to others, but it's still good to hear from the OP again. You shouldn't need to book anywhere in the middle of June, it's well after the Whitsun period, and at that time, half of Holland's retirees will be in France anyway
