Well, David I never thought you would dessert Touriscampo!!! We were there about the same time as you in June this year and have to agree we were a little disappointed after the year before which was just about perfect. Not sure we will be going back. We
did look at the site out at Sagres in the pine trees which took C C , we thought it would be ok for a few nights but might be noisy at weekends. We have never looked at anywhere further East because like you we just drive straight to Espiche. Our other favourite
site is inland at Chave Grande and we would definitely return there if we return to Portugal but to be honest their motorway tolls put us off as last summer we drove from the Algarve to Fig da Foz then back to Spain (legally) and it cost us well over £100
in tolls! We plan to stay in Spain next year so sorry can't help you. I'm sure their must be other sites further east but I agree Touriscampo will be hard to beat.0 -

We have done most of Portugal like you and Turiscampo stands out from the rest, the nearest for quality is the one at Tavira Camping Ria Formosa which is about six years old and although it is a very open site its not too bad and a lot closer to the beach then turiscampo. We are thinking of going to Turiscampo in May next year is it still busy at that time of year because we have only ever been in winter but we have now retired.

I think your right about the length of stay, we have spent a week there and althought the site is one of the few good ones in Portugal there isn't alot about the area. We intend to stay there for a few days in May when we do our month tour of the Algarve.

Its a while since I last toured Portugal, when we did we used to prefer the
>Orbitur sites<. Last time we were there there was only one site at Olhao about 2 Km out of the centre called Camping Olhao. It is quite a good site but the pitches are quite small and large outfits could have problems unless improvements have been made.peedee

camping olhao is good we looked round it right beside national park and a nice fishing town with fantastic market
its on uk campsite
theres also a nice site at fuzeta which is along the coast a bit further reall nice place though sites for both are on the front so to speak and walk to shops etc

I have also stayed on the Fuzeta site a couple of times. It is located on the town's seafront, infact while it is a very short wallk to the shops it is an even shorter walk to the local jetty where you can catch a small ferry out to the miles of unspoilt beaches of the off shore islands. One of the draw backs of the site is the local teen agers like to ride their mopeds round the exterior of the site in the late evening. It gets quite noisy at these times. The site is fenced but that does not stop undesirables from entering the site. Last time I was there, there was an attempted robbery from one of the caravan awnings by persons unknown who climbed over the fence in the late evening. We think they were after the TV in the awning. They were disturbed by the English owner who in tackling one of the thieves received a bad cut on his hand from a knife but they did flee empty handed. If staying there, I certainly would not leave anything of value lying about.
It is thought the theives were in fact Spanish not Portuguese.

It's a few years since we've been to
Camping AlvorThe site was undergoing a lot of changes under new management and it's now in the ACSI discount scheme. We liked the site as it was within walking distance of the old town and port, and the magnificent beach. Portimão is the nearest big town and can be reached
by bus as can Lagos in the other direction.We wrote our very first
'Postcard' from there in 2012.0
we have just spent 3 weels near olhao if u enjoy cycling /bird watching this area is great for that
