Booking Eurotunnel and API

I have booked a crossing by Eurotunnel through the CC website.

So far so good and no problems.

But don't I have to give details of Advance Passenger Information (API) to Eurotunnel to allow a swift journey through the check-in booths?

We have previously booked through Eurotunnel own website and filled in an API form – is that sufficient or do I have to ring Eurotunnel prior to my journey with details?

Any help appreciated.

I think when you get your booking paperwork it will tell you to do the API direct with ET using your ticket reference?

I didn't think you got paperwork anymore, when booking online.  I've only ever booked with ET direct using Tesco vouchers, and when I get my emailed confirmation, it is mentioned on there that I need to do API.

To do that you need your booking ref number and password, see link

surely your email confirmation will give your bookingbref and password? Always has when I've booked through the club. If you dont give THE API info you will have to go through one of the manned booths and they will send you to the terminal check in. A right
    pain.

    Thanks for the replies.

My CC Overseas Holiday Confirmation document gives a Travel Order Ref number, my Membership number and an Operator Reference number but nothing other than those indicating a Password.

Are any of those numbers my password?

Doesn't sound like it.  I've just had a look at our bookings for earlier this year.  The first one is a booking reference number, which consists of 8 numbers.  The password consists of a combination of 6 letters and numbers, our last one for August was
4R3N4E.  The one for earlier in the year had the numbers and letters the other way round, but still consisted of 6 in total.

I seem to remember that there was something about this on CT a while ago, a search found

    >THIS THREAD<
.  In the first post there is advice from Hazel, with a telephone number to ring if you have booked via the Club.

    Hi K&M,

It seems that there is someting missing from your CC email confirmation; like the instruction to ring ET with your passports ready.   So therefore, why didnt you just ring the club?    It would appear that your docs are incomplete and The Club need to take
action to fix that for you and any others affected.

    Hello Keith and Margaret,

You should have a telephone number on your confirmation which you need to call to advise Eurotunnel of your passport information.

The number is  0330 1233207  and if you call them they will ask you for your Eurotunnel reference number which is the Operator Reference number on your confirmation.

I hope that helps and have a lovely lovely time when you travel!

It's all on the Email K&M, just ring the number and quote the highlighted reference. Your reference and not mine Laughing

Anybody know why this has been implemented on the tunnel  but not ferries?

I don't know, we had to do it for a P&O cruise we went on.

I think with the cruise it was because you are getting on and off in other countries. Perhaps with Eurotunnel it is because the border controls are the wrong way round compared to the ferries?

Thanks for all the helpful replies.

I've rung the number at the bottom of the CC Confirmation document - they required mine and my wife's full names, passport numbers and expiry dates and the Operator's reference number.

I have no email, snail mail or number reference confirmation of my phone call and if there's a problem at Eurotunnel when we go abroad I've no evidence I've rung them to give my passport details.

Looks to me like a layer of bureaucratic tosh that we neither want or need – no wonder it's so dear to travel abroad.

But, to be fair, it's much easier if you've booked directly, just a click and you can enter your details, and you get a confrmation email that you have done so.

And don't you think these bureaucratic tosh excercises will only get worse after Brexit, when we supposedly control our own borders again?  We will probably have to enter the information more than once - in Britain and in the systems of everywhere we are visiting!Wink

ValDa – I usually get my tickets direct with Eurotunnel but using the CC site has saved me £26 against the Eurotunnel website price.

A bit of inconvenience of a phone call is worth £26 and that money will pay for most, if not all, of my overnight stops in France in the New Year period.

So what happens if I just turn up at the tunnel without making the phone call?  Will they turn me away, or just scan my passport when I get there?

They scan your passport, but ask for the 'card' with which you paid for the crossing.  This is OK if you remember, but if you have three or four, and don't remember which you used, it takes at least a minute!  It's no more onerous than the check-in for a
    ferry crossing.

Might be to reduce queuing? I would also think it allows more time for security checks.

On the ferries you always go through manned booths, so the info is taken then, at the Tunnel you drive through automated booths so they need the info before hand.

AFAIK it's required for flights to some countries; when you check in online the required details are provided that way and there is no need to provide the info separately.

We've booked Eurotunnel several times through the CC and made a nice saving each time.

I then ring ET soon after (while I remember) and have found that they answer very quickly, take the booking details, passport numbers etc and that's it.

Agree that you don't get any sort of confirmation. I just write the date I rang on the booking (in case they ask) and have had no problems whatsoever.

We have had Eurotunnel save our API details for trips not sure if the same applies if using club booking
