Not sure if it has been flagged up before but this site is now permanently closed.

A great shame as we used it many times en route to the south.

    Thanks for that update, I will have to update my website. Do you know the reason? there is a small Municipal on the way into the town which might be an alternative. I think I am right in saying it was English owned? Mind you it did need some serious updating,
    particularlt the toilet/shower facilities. Surprised its not been taken over, idea opportunity for someone?

    Just looked at their website which is now one page only giving the same information as posted by the OP. There is an e-mail address, might be a bit cheeky to ask if the site was going to be sold on?

    The owners are taking well deserved retirement after 30 years there, but as far as I know have not sold the site.  More detail on their facebook page.

    I think the site has been for sale for quite a while, with apparently no takers.  However, I can't see it on any of the normal 'Buy a campsite' websites.........!

    It's a site which is 'quirky' as mentioned in a lot of reviews, and with what I thought were very odd sanitary facilities, (even many years ago when it used to be a Eurocamp overnight site)  and perhaps won't appeal to a wide range of buyers.

    Val, are you saying that the sanitary facilities are the stand up and aim type?

    No, if you mean 'Turkish' style - they're normal (smallish) toilets, very clean, and there is a supply toilet paper and the toilets have seats too.  But they are in an odd building, quite old, painted in a somewhat garish style with murals, and we found the lights didn't work sometimes at night. 

    Some people would perhaps call them 'shabby-chic', others might describe them as in need of replacement.

    Having said that the site is in a lovely setting, and near to the A75, so could make a really rewarding business.

    What I remember of the site is not only the shabby comic book murals but also the painfully slow water supply. Over 10 minutes to fill an Aquaroll.

    We stayed here at the end of September. The English owner was very grumpy . He said that they would continue to live at the site but it would be permanently closed. He blamed complaints from customers and bureaucracy. A shame because it was a useful stipover
    in an area with few sites

    I found it interesting reading the reviews on UKCampsites. La Filature obviously had its fans but there were reviews that were more critical. I just wonder if as an older couple they have just had enough with no
    enthusiasm to find other solutions?

    DK. That's how I see it too. My impression is that the owners have worked hard, wanted out, and were disappointed that they couldn't  sell. 

    But several British owned campsites in France get those starkly contradting reviews you noticed -  some from the British fans who have been to the site every year for 17 years, believe the owner is now their best friend,  meet the same people there every
    year, can't imagine going anywhere else, etc. But some other reviews from newcomers who think a British owned site in France will be "safe" for a first visit and are then shocked when they find it's not like the Club site at Chatsworth after all. The reviews
    in French, Dutch and German are often more objective in that situation.

    Of the many dozens of sites I have stayed on in France only two of them were British owned and both left a lot to be desired when compared with all the others. I wouldn't go back to either of them. Of all the many French or Dutch owned sites we've stayed
    at there is only three that we wouldn't return to at all and perhaps half a dozen that we'd only return to because they were convenient for the journey.

    I suppose English owned campsites are a bit like adult only sites in that I don't seek them out but if they happen to be where I want to be and there is no easy alternative I will usually give them a try. Sometimes we have been lucky and found a nice site.
    There seems to be a body of UK campers who like to go back the the same site time and time again,  and I suspect some of the previous customers of La Filature  fall into that category. Those circumstances can make a campsite a bit clicky in my view.
