Dogs - wintersun.
Hi. Just retired and planning our first winter caravanning trip to Southern Spain via channel tunnel. Any suggestions please for sites with good off lead dog walking on site or close to the site. Also suggestions for good stopover sites for dogs, please.
If sites have an indoor heated pool too, that would be perfect!

Labowners, If you go to UKCampsite .co.uk there is a useful list of French sites open all year on their overseas forum - they are few in number and you must take what there is, but without knowing your route to Spain I can't make suggestions. But finding off lead dog walking on a European campsite is a forlorn hope. Sorry.

my dog prefers outdoor pools. Preferably muddy ones.

Shouldn't this be in the thread for caravaning with dogs?

Bonterra Park at Benicassim has the old disused campsite next to it which is available to walk dogs off lead. Camping Kikopark at Oliva is right next to a vast sandy beach where dogs can be walked for miles. Camping Ribamar near to Alcossebre is set in a pine forest and is 400 metres from a coastal footpath, but beware of the processionary caterpillars if they are about.
PS. Don't leave booking your spanish sites too late - many are already fully booked until the end of March.
Mods: I vote to keep this discussion HERE - it's about overseas campsites suitable for dogs, not a discussion about dogs themselves.

Processionary caterpillars are usually only a problem in Spring

We were at Ribamar this February and they were very much in evidence with large nests hanging in the fir trees and caterpillars crossing the footpaths by the coastal path.
I presumed the OP's "winter" trip could encompass springtime as many overwinterers don't go home until the end of March.

Only one entrance to the beach at Kiko has a "no dogs" sign and as far as I could see, it was totally ignored by all as there were lots of dogs on the beach every time I walked on it. Perhaps the restriction is only enforced during the high season.
