Overseas 2017
Hi all, we are looking at going to southern France next year. We have already booked our ferry and was wondering what is the earliest we can book an overseas caravan club site? Thanks

Totally agree with Deleted User User, we started going to France 5 years ago and got great advice from this forum. We don't book ahead, we would advise that you join Acsi and possibly Camping Cheques. Depending on when you intend to tour you will not need to book ahead. By the way Caravan Club do not own sites abroad, they can book a site for you if you so wish but at an extra cost, it is easy to book a site yourself (if you insist on doing so) the joy of caravan/motorhoming in Europe is that you can tour the way that you can't in Britain. There are thousands of sites the majority of them are good, very good and excellant, a few, not many are dire, however if you arrive at one and don't like it there will always be another not far away. Most sites will expect you to have a look around first to see if you want to stay, they will not tell you where to pitch (in most cases) or even how to pitch, they will not make you pay in advance, just settle the bill when you leave, most don't even want to know how long you are staying. It really is that easy, enjoy.

I hate to say this but you may have made a mistake by booking your ferry separately. The best deals through this Club are often by booking site plus ferry as a combined package. But have a look at the Club site booking brochure when you get it and see
if they are the sort of sites you want. For a first visit they may well be, but those sites tend to be rather too conventional for more experienced travellers.0 -
As your 'Forum name' if PreciousFamily47, it may be that you are holidaying with children, and if so the advice about booking may only be for the very brave! If you are going in peak weeks (and in France those are generally only from the end of the first
week in July until the end of the second week in August) then it may be better to book especially if you want the certainty of a booked pitch, and want a slide with facilities for children. However, you can book directly with campsites in France, as well as through the Caravan Club, and you will have a much wider choice of types of sites, and numbers of sites.
If you are travelling outside those weeks, and don't have children, then the advice about it not being necessary to book still stands, but I would suspect that very many first-timers are reluctant to make such a leap of faith, and prefer to book at least
for the first few nights.0 -
Hi, as said above it would help people to help you if there was more info-dates/routes/destiation etc. I never book and every year my wife's says 'why can't we book' so dont feel that booking is a no no it's just that a lot of the posters in this section
are, let's say, expierienced and know that at the times they are likely to go abroad then they don't need to book.Give some more info and I am sure you will get a lot of help.

We booked a couple of sites directly last year not using the caravan club. The caravan club does offer better value but doesn't always offer sites in the areas you want. Most sites use online bookings so you can try booking ASAP. Worst comes to the worst
they aren't available yet and you retry in a month. We usually book around Christmas without problem.Paul.
